Premier League season predictions!

๐Ÿ’ฌ Key Quotes & Speaker Breakdown

Premier League title race

"I cannot see past them [Arsenal] going back to back. I think there's too much uncertainty amongst the other challengers."

โ€” Nile

"I think it's less about what Arsenal have gained and more about what City have lost. I think they might end up winning it at a good 9 point plus gap."

โ€” Joel

Chelsea manager/performance

"Chelsea are an interesting one. They're either going to be Alonso out by Christmas or they're going to really look like a force for next season."

โ€” Marley

Premier League top four

"I think that Manchester United actually will be in the top four because of all of the teams that you've spoken about in the lack of consistency. The one team that showed consistency in the second half of last season was Manchester United."

โ€” Nile

Aston Villa/Domestic trophies

"My other hot take is that Aston Villa are going to win domestic silverware this season, whether the FA Cup or the Carabao Cup."

โ€” Nile

Transfer window/Flops

"Biggest flop of the season... Mateus Fernandez and Johann Manzambi. For 85 million you better be bloody good because you're signing for a team that's finished back to back 17th."

โ€” Joel

Manager sacking

"I'm picking Newcastle's guy [for first manager sacked]. I don't even know his name... Sergei Yikiravitch. Get your P45, you're gone."

"My hot take for the season is that Oliver Glasner will be a hit at Nottingham Forest and will survive the season without being sacked and Nottingham Forest will finish in the top ten."

โ€” Nile

Player of the Season

"I think the player of the season will be Bukayo Saka. I think it's his time to actually show that he is what everyone says he is."

โ€” Marley

"I think player of the season will be Gabriel Magalhaes because I don't see Arsenal scoring enough goals through one man... I think they've got the best defense."

โ€” Nile

This is Football Social Daily, Premier League Podcast. This is Football Social Daily, an award-winning Premier League podcast, and the top flight of English football returns this week. Friday night, the curtain raiser of a brand-new Premier League season, season 26-27. And so it's time for an annual FSD tradition. Yes, this is the prediction show. And on this podcast, myself, Joel and Marley will go through our winners of the Premier League. The Champions League spots, who will go down? Who will be the first manager to be sacked? And who will be top scorer in the Premier League this campaign? We have got a lot to go through when nobody quite knows what's about to happen. Welcome to the podcast, my name's Nile. That's Joel Tudor, that's Marley Anderson. A very good morning boys. We're here again at the start of another season. It is crazy how quickly it all rolls around. This is the best episode where it just proves that none of us are clairvoyance and none of us can predict the future because we are terrible at it. So if anyone hears this, do the opposite. And you might make some money on it, actually. To be fair, we haven't even gone through our predictions from last year yet, because so much has happened with the World Cup and other bits and pieces. And we still actually haven't reflected on what we said last year. Marley, I think, because you're the one who keeps log of all of these things. I reckon you've got a decent idea of what was said last year and whether we were any good with our predictions. Spoiler, we've got nothing right. And everything wrong. Yeah, I'm going to have to have a look into it and report back in future weeks, because it's in one of my old notebooks because I'm old school wrote things down with the pen and paper. And I think I think I did, I think I might put it online as well. But I'll have to have to have a look back through because we've got some things okay. And we got some things badly wrong. But Joel wasn't here. So we, we, um, yeah, we sort of got away with that one by. So that might be the first year, Marley, that I've gotten neither nothing right nor wrong. So actually, it's a great result for me. Yeah, I mean, it's better than you normally do. Maybe you should go traveling again and you just avoid this, avoid this show every year. Right. I'm going to back out of this episode, guys. So I'll see you next year and then we'll come back again in August. It would make the editing a lot easier if you did do that. So see you later off you hop. Right. Currently, top of the Premier League, because a ball hasn't been kicked yet is AFC Bournemouth by virtue of alphabetical order, but I fancy Arsenal to do what they did last year, boys. We're going to start with our Premier League title winners prediction. It's going to be Arsenal back to back. Michaela Tetis team. They've got the battle scars. They've now got the success under their belts of getting over the line against the Stern Tester Manchester City could have been stirner, but they've seen off Pep Guardiola. But last year Arsenal got the job done. And for me, with the squad that they have and the mentality that they've built and the fact that our Tetis being there a long time now, I cannot see past them going back to back. I think there's too much uncertainty amongst the other challenges Liverpool. How will they cope with it? Iola and no most Salah and Zomoreska. We saw how poor Manchester City were in the community shield final against Arsenal, just this weekend gone. Chelsea, Javier Lonson, so many new signings and Manchester United. Well, who knows what you're going to get from them. And let's not even start talking about spurs. So for me, Arsenal boys, they're going to do it again. Can anyone make a different alternative prediction? Er, I'm firmly in the ball rowing the same direction as you. I can't see anyone getting near Arsenal just because of the where they dispatch Manchester City in the Carabell community shield. Sorry. I've got Carabell my man because Newcastle going to win it again, but we'll come to that later this later this episode. No, yeah. The thing that tips it for me is the quality of the players they've signed. They've not signed many, but Bruno Gamar is genuine like what you see is what you get. And he's just too good not to improve them. And I really like the look of Christos Zolis as well. The winger, he got a couple of assists again in the community shield and he's preseason's gone well. He he's got he comes into the season fresh because greased and gust of the world cup or anything like that. So I think they've signed really well. And they're the ones to beat for me. Yeah. And with the both of you's I think even though Bruno I think is an absolute game changer of assigning because with Arsenal it's more about raising the ceiling rather than raising the floor when it comes to their squad. I just think it's less about what Arsenal have gained and more about what City have lost. Because I feel like if Guardiola was in charge this season he'd want to come back with an absolute vengeance. I think their signings would have been very different. I think the team will look very different. I just think with with how meresco's coming in and I don't want to take the community shield as like a prediction of how their season's going to go. But Arsenal are the most stable top four team in the league by a mile in terms of you know the trajectory and the process they've got the belief like the manager's been there for so long now. So I think it's more about what everyone else has lost rather than what Arsenal have gained. And I think they might end up winning it at a good 9 point plus counter to be honest. Do you know what I think might be key is how they approach the Champions League. Of course two seasons ago they were in the title race and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League having just beaten Real Madrid over two legs and they put all of their eggs in that Champions League basket and they ended up losing three or four games towards the end of the campaign. And I think they ended up losing the title to Liverpool by a good nine points. I think it was in the end. I might be wrong on that. But this year they've reached the final and managed to upkeep a league campaign and yes they had a few wobbles and you know I've said on the podcast before that they've scraped over the line in certain games. But the fact of the matter is they got the job done. Now they've ticked off the Premier League. Can they tick off the Champions League something they've never done before. And I think for me that is going to be the biggest test of Arsenal this season. How are they going to balance the Champions League and the Premier League with eyes on winning both because as we know that's a very difficult thing to do. So we've all got Arsenal as title winners in the Premier League this upcoming season. What about the rest of the top four? Now this could be a minefield. Marley who's going to round out the rest of your your top four? Newcastle? No joking. So they said top four, not bottom four. Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea. Yeah I'm pretty similar but just the other way round with Chelsea Liverpool, City, Chelsea Liverpool. I think Chelsea are an interesting one. They're either going to, it's either going to be Alonzo out by Christmas or they're going to really look like a force for next season. This season it's a bit premature but I just think he's going to, he's going to get a tune out of this Chelsea team that no one manages done prior to put maybe like Marreska. Let's see. I don't know who's premature but I do think Chelsea going to have a much better season than they have in the last four years. Let's see. Well I'm going to go against the grain because it would be very boring if we all predicted the same thing but this is one I actually do believe in. I think Chelsea will finish outside of the top four. I think that Manchester United actually will be in the top four because of all of the teams that you've spoken about in the lack of consistency. The one team that showed consistency in the second half of last season. Was Manchester United? Just to show the consistency didn't come into the summer. No, I would have loved that. Yeah but preseason you can't read too much into that and United. Yeah I mean transfers. Oh well to be fair, Yuri Telemons is a safe pair of hands. Andres Santos has looked decent in preseason. The key one isn't it is if you can keep hold of Bruno Fernandez at Manchester United because Galatasaray I've come in with this monster offer which is really throwing a spanner in the work. What is going on in Turkey? Where's all this money coming from? Turkey found oil or something. Are they producing thick teeth and hair from oil or something like that? What is going on? Yeah they've promised him a share in the in the cosmetics industry. That's what they've done part of his contract. He gets his own plastic surgery as part of the contract. But it is absolutely wild what there is equity in the Turkey teeth places. But it's it's mental that Turkey are coming in with these blistering offers to try and take some of the biggest talents away from the Premier League. You know most sellers ended up in Turkey. Bruno Fernandez given up Manchester United as the captain having just guided them to a top four finish in the Premier League with a record breaking season in terms of the numbers he was posting. I think Manchester United will finish in the top four. I think there's too much turbulence at Chelsea. I think they've again similar to the Moreska situation when he went into Chelsea a couple of years ago. I think there's too many players. I think there's too many egos and I'm not sure how Jabi Alonso will fare dealing with that having failed at Real Madrid. I think Chelsea still too ropey to finish in the top four. I think Manchester United have a bit more consistency. Yes Pep Guardiola's left city and they were awful against Arsenal in the community shield. They've still got Harland. They've still got great players. They are about to sell Roderie to Barcelona which will be a massive blow. It's just something for me which I struggled to see. City finishing even a bad Manchester. Remember that season two years ago when they were awful and they didn't win for 13 games or something. They still finished in the top four that season and they'll do it again. They'll do it again. And they want to trophy. So they'll do it again and then Liverpool for me I think again it's the legacy. It's the heritage. They've still got players like Van Dyke and Alison in their last years of their contracts. The quality is there more so than Chelsea in my opinion. So I think that will be the top four. I think it'll be Arsenal and then not sure what order of Manchester United Liverpool and Manchester City. Well I was challenging then now. Let's be optimistic. Man United challenge for the league. That's my hot now. That's not my hot take. You're not having that as my hot take. No challenge. It was a toss up for me as well because I think Chelsea have a good manager and I like some of what they've done with this squad but I still look at the team and think I'm not sure you're that good but if Col Parmer, Morgan Rodgers and Jal Pedro click that's good enough to get you top four. I think if they all have good seasons, you don't necessarily need a brilliant defensive if that attack is fluid and creating goals and assists for each other then it's going to be hard to stop and they're still aggressive in the market. They're doing more signings probably between now and the end of August status September whenever the transfer window ends. So I did sort of wonder about them and do I replace them with Man United or Spurs. I'm not picking Man United just because I think the when they go into a season with a manager, it tends to not go as previous. For example, when they appointed Solshar, it was never as good as the last season when he was into him and I think that might happen with Curric and maybe they get a bit used to him and it sort of plateau is a bit and I don't know where that plateau is but the squad is probably as good as if not better than Chelsea's and then one thing I looked at was Spurs as well like our Spurs good enough to make the leap from back to back 17th to 4th or 5th in the league something like that. The capable in terms of what they've got in the squad but it's Spurs and they've been shit for two years and you can't really ignore that so I can't I can't put them in top four with any level of certainty. Spurs actually start the league bottom of the table in alphabetical order. That's great. That's that's that's at the first time that isn't it. There was no Wolves or West Ham is there or West Bromall. I think it's the first time in Premier League history. There's been no W teams in the in the entire 20 20 things so I'm like that's one of those bollocks stats that I absolutely hate it's like you know Chelsea haven't won on a Tuesday night in April away from home for 37 years it's like who fucking cares this doesn't mean anything I hate those kind of stats they're so pointless. Only the only for the football trivia random shows you go to or a pub night where that'll come up ever unless you meet your random guys you know they're those memes where women get mad at guys you can talk about football all night with a stranger when it comes to football heritage and you'll just get onto that random stay. Hey that's the only time it's coming up ever. I love you know that I chatted my wife up by telling her how good Hugo Rodriguez was back in 2008. How many drinks down was you and how many drinks down was she. Time now to drill down on the three teams that will be going back to the championship or down to the championship for the very first time Tottenham they've been on the precipice haven't they for a couple of years but they've spent big this summer so will they be amongst the boys bottom three predictions I'll go first I think very boringly that the three promoted teams Coventry Ipswich whole city will all be relegated back to the championship I don't think whole city have got the quality required I don't think Coventry despite the fact that they're riding high and they do have an experience manager in terms of Premier League level in Frank Lampard I can't see him getting the job done with the players they've got unless they really make some big signings a bit like what Sunland did last year so I think they'll drop back down an Ipswich town under Gary O'Neill Gary O'Neill sack by wolves sack by Bournemouth I think he is a good manager but are they going to get a little bit twitchy Ipswich if by November December January they're still in the bottom three they're going to stick or they're going to twist I think that will be the key so those are my three to go downloads the three promoted teams Ipswich hole and Coventry do you have any alternative suggestions or is it very much a similar looking lineup I've gone Coventry and a whole just because like the the the reason you mentioned I think follow them are going down and that's purely because I don't rate our below as a manager I mean I'm not going off basically what he's done at Madrid but I just don't see him as a quality manager compared to Marco Silva and I feel like he's putting his eggs very much in the basket of the Real Madrid kids that he's brought will get him out of trouble they've lost Harry Wilson who was by far the most instrumental player last season they've lost Raul Jimenez and I just don't see where the goals and the creativity are coming from this time round and the the striker they've got Raul yeah I mean he's not like the the Raul that we all know the killer from Madrid is still a very raw talent and still pretty big money as well I just think that he's I think it'd be one of the first managers to go if I'm honest this will either come back to bite me in the looking absolute sensational team or they are going down but I really think that full of them riding a wave for a little while now and now that two of their most instrumental players have gone and I don't think they've they've replaced them adequately I think they're at danger I was looking at their squad actually and they were one of the contenders for me as well but I just don't think that there is poor as the other teams I just think like you know with Gary O'Neal I think on it on a good season you could get a tune out of the team and I think Ipswich obviously going back they've still got kind of the drips of the season that they were in the Premier League you know they've still got it's not like Coventry Hall where they've you know they've not been in the Premier League for a good amount of time now maybe the fact that Ipswich have still got that parachute from the Premier League I don't know but Gary O'Neal for me is the better manager of the three that have come up in my opinion they don't have a very big squad for them but I think Marley their core players their core group are good enough to survive I mean burnt Leno in goal Yacquim Anderson's a decent enough centre-half Rodrigo Maniz he knows where the goal is hasn't scored as many goals as you should have done Castania experienced at the level in Woby and Berger again many games under their belt Emil Smith Row played for Arsenal Anthony Robinson impressed fullback over the last couple of seasons I just think generally the core of their squad is good enough to survive but I understand Joel's concerns yeah full of him's an interesting one because the manager's gone the main striker's gone which is him and Es and yeah I agree with what Joel said I worry about his how good he is he was given the real Madrid job because he was in the right place at the right time and then he was decided it wasn't for him and I worry about his how much he wants to manage full him as in he was in the Real Madrid job last year and he's thinking I'm going to be Real Madrid manager in next year I might get this job permanent and all of a sudden he was sacked and then a few weeks later it was full of manager and I think that's happened too quick to have a look at full him and properly do your due diligence as a manager to say right what do they need what do they play like what am I able to do he's come in there there's been you know there's a little bit suspect he's just jumped at the first opportunity as an ace yes and leaving Real Madrid and I you know the players he's signed he's brought a couple from Real Madrid with him which was dodgy in itself if you look into it and who owns who owns Real Madrid and who owns full them and stuff like that there's a bit of sort of backhanders there that's it's legal but it's you know bending the rules a little bit of signed share trials from Southampton and 30 million quid he got four goals and six assists in 33 games last season if that is that 30 million pound player I've got no doubt he's a good player but you know is that going to move the needle for you I'm not really sure I don't know how how well they're going to score goals and Gonzalo Garcia has done well for Real Madrid but not you know he's not tested and you know not going to sort of hit the ground really you wouldn't think so I do worry about them but I don't think they'll go down I think it's which are best best equip to stay up but ultimately I think they'll go I think they'll go down with the other two that came up holding Coventry hold hold in my opinion and nailed on and that shite home kit they've got deserves to go straight back to the championship because that is fucking awful it's not much you can do with orange and black is there it's like the two worst palette callers together I think there is I think there's more you can do and it's just shit I mean do you have any new castle of giving the ride this season have anything with you well this is me this is coming from a new castle finance is bad and I looked at there's got to fuck me at least it's not out buying I'm struggling to think of one nice home kit that whole city have ever had actually certainly not in the Premier League era they were all a bit much of a much it's not good you can't do anything with orange and black I always feel for teams like full of and impressed and north end and teams like that because it's just white like what can you do with a white kit that hasn't already been done yeah everton as well everton have never had a nice to be fair the one under moys the umbro on was nice with the other couple nobody out yeah the umbro kits with decent but yeah there's there's only so much you can do and the issue with white kits is if you haven't got Adidas as your sponsor you can change the color of the stripes and the accents on the colors if it's a night kit or anyone else it's basically just the same white shirt every single season but there's not much more you can do with it is the it's just but yeah anyway I know it's not best or worst kits of the season but they have got the shit is kits and they're going down so interesting that none of you opted for Sunderland or Leeds potentially as contend loves as opt for Sunderland well maybe you can opt for Sunderland in uh surprise prediction of the season that they're going to finish in the Europa League spots is that is that what it is or no that's not what it is bizarre enough right we're supposed to talk about signings now but I hate doing this because trance or window isn't closed I'm scrambling my brain to try and think of all the silence that have been made there are inevitably going to be ones that I've missed that are going to appear so obvious when it comes to the beginning of the season and X player is banging in goals and Y player has flopped so unless you've got any early contenders I always dislike doing this because last year I predicted Randall Kohler Moana to be a hit signing for spurs and they were absolutely dismal so I'm not really going to going to put my neck on the chopping block again here now you'll tell us their name if you're best then I'll put it as my worst I can't remember whether this was this season or the season before but I picked Tiani Rainders as well and he's gone off to the Saudi League been an absolute flop in the Premier League so I'm not doing it this year lad I'm sorry after one year after one year my prediction looks super perfect for Rainders and then he just been just didn't kick on did it at all but yeah poor bugger he's a way to a way to Saudi but yeah see you later pack your bags thanks for coming season cancelled after episode one throw some names out then then lads throw me a bone let's hear what you've got and let's not necessarily nail these into concrete predictions but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts in general on on the transfer window and nobody's got any predictions so happy days will move on to the next topic can we leave ourselves nice and safe I've got I've got a few I've got a few days I've got I like the look of a Vuskovich that Brighton have signed from Spurs he got a young player this season at Hamburg last season in the Bundesliga for a centre back which is pretty decent feet I think I think he'll have a really good breakout season there and anyone he was nurtured by Brighton seemed to do well until they leave Brighton I mean there's only one or two plays I can think of even managers where they've left Brighton and not been the same since but I think Vuskovich I'm wondering if Spurs have missed the mark with him I know they've got a Vanneck who I think will be good for them as well but Vuskovich looked really good at Hamburg last season him Bruno Gamaras I know it's pretty obvious but I think he just takes Arsenal to another level in midfield very very quickly he's almost nailed on and yeah Teelyman's like you said now I think he'll have a very steady season I don't think he can go wrong with him that'll do for sign-ins before we start opening up a minefield first manager gone this should be easier Marley whoever the whole manager is what he called I don't know he's there that would be Paul no because that's my hot tick for the yeah my hot tick of the year is that Paul Jewel will come back and manage all city no how have we won awards for this fucking podcast where you don't even know who the whole manager is because nobody knows who the whole manager is and you don't fucking need to because you'll be gone by October you call like Giacanavitch or something like that yeah Sergei Yikiravitch is the manager Sergei Yikiravitch get your P45 you're gone you are going your first man gone I think I don't know if you'll be first because hold my like something on well that's the whole point of the fucking prediction Marley it's the first manager go all right correct then Joel over to you mate I'm picking new castles guy I don't even know his name this is how new all these new guys are oh there we go you're meant to you're meant to know what you're talking about I've just done a name blank for Sergei Yikiravitch the well-known Bosnian football manager and former player who is the manager you know the Bosnian legend that is him apart from our below it I don't know why I just can't get out of my mind that he won't be successful there I think Frankie Lamps I think he's just going to go really north to south you know you go and win winning the championship by a cantor it's just no indicator whatsoever I mean Remy and Vincent Company did an amazing season of Burnley and then I can't remember when did he last the season at Burnley but he wasn't going well at all there and then obviously he gets the buying job but now I don't know with Frank Lampard I just don't think it's a good indicator of how he seems going to go and I just don't think that seems ready for Premier League football considering how much they've actually spent as well and the quality so Frank Lampard if it's outside the bottom three they're top three they've just come up then I will go with our below my prediction Pierre Sash the new Crystal Palace manager I think with Glasner leaving I think it will collapse they've kept some of their important players as well but I just think that when you build something successful under a manager which is the first time ever that Crystal Palace have been this successful being in Europe winning European trophies winning the community shield winning the FA Cup you lose that and things can spiral very quickly when a manager of high profile like that leaves it's a good shout that Nail but I'm surprised neither of you have said Glasner because you've got a very vocal you've got a very vocal manager and you've got a very very vocal owner and we know what happened we post the Coglu we know what happened with every manager that's I think that's an under like it's a very dark horse of what's to come there well I'm glad you said that because my hot take for the season is that Oliver Glasner will be a hit at Nottingham Forest and will survive the season without being sacked and Nottingham Forest will finish in the top ten of the table that is my hot take that's everyone's signal to lump on for Glasner to get sat in the first three weeks for Forest to get relegated Marin Arons to get a band from the stands for two months so Nail though it's going to be an interesting relationship that because you just don't know the dine up because how many like at one post the Coglu when they're you thinking surely post the Coglu you might gel there he's got a good personality but another vocal manager he goes in he's vocal he's out I just think with Glasner he's another guy that just won't take any I also think not winning any football matches probably doesn't help either to be honest with you yeah he was horrific wasn't he and it definitely does impact it but I don't know they've lost the big player in Anderson too but they've also retained Morgan Rogers which I think was a massive coup I'm more in here I'm the jury's out with that one I'm still not convinced by it just because it's volatile it's like a stock that's volatile put a hundred pounds in tomorrow could be a ten my hot take is that Vito Pereira will be back in the Premier League by Christmas and if you if you're forcing me to take it a bit further if you're forcing me to take it a bit further it'll be back at Nottingham Forest by Christmas for yet another stint under the fat man who rules supreme at the city ground but I think I just look at him and I think at the start of every season there's sometimes a manager that's just waiting waiting for a job waiting to see what what comes to him and he's he's an obvious candidate for anyone that sucks their manager because he's got Premier League experience now and he's done a good job with Wolves and he's done a good job with Forest and he's he's brought them from the brink to the not the brink but like floating around that drop zone and he's he's led them to safety I think one of the newly promoted teams Ipswich or Coventry in particular maybe even full him I think it'd be a good fit to full him if our belower gets pinned off I think that is going to happen my other hot take is the Aston Villa are going to win domestic silver weather season the FA Cup or the Carabell Cup it's head into Villa Park yes they might get drawn against one of the big boys but as we've seen over the last few years Aston Villa are more than capable and those big games are holding their own and picking up a result and I think with all of the other teams around which we discussed at the top of the show with the top four and the winners at the Premier League apart from Arsenal it feels like everyone's vulnerable so Villa in a one-off game could quite easily and yes I know they've lost Morgan Rogers and they've made some some changes losing tealamans as well and they don't know how that midfield is going to look without those two key players missing but I just think Unai Emery is so smart and he's wise and I think he's got the tools to to guide Aston Villa to ending their domestic trophy drought they've done it in Europe why not do it in the FA Cup or the Carabell that would be my other hot take prediction yes and good chance I've done for spurs not to be in a relegation fight I think one of the tops typical the typical top six managers will be gone by Christmas and I won't name any names but I think one of them will go that's all that's all I'm going to say on that one and I think an underdog is going to win the FA Cup this year and when I say underdog I'm going to extend it to the championship oh wow Pompey FA Cup winners 2027 yeah right in hot take is hot hot take for that is Pompey to potentially make it past the third round us are you in the second round or third no we always starting the third round now we're in the championship but we keep getting drawn against bloody Arsenal who ever else we get to get past the third round of the FA Cup from there dream on dream Joel this was the easiest podcast to not give him a shout of a sniff of saying portameth you've gone oh maybe even the championship and nothing over there's gone I can mention forces now we've got to be fair it must be it must be terrible not be done to talk about your team in a start of the season but yeah very quick do you feel like you're going to stay up or go down I think we're going to be in very similar territory to what we were last year which is in a relegation fight and we've already started badly we lost to West Ham in the car about the weekend the one just gone we lost pretty miserably to QPR at the weekend having scored the opening goal at Fratton Park as well we need signings we've spent money I just think the gap now between the top teams in the championship and the rest of the championship aka the likes of portameth and pressed and north end and Lincoln and it's absolutely massive when you think about wolves and West Ham dropping down from a decade in the Premier League and now playing against Lincoln who have been promoted from league one bonkers isn't it it's like their own FA Cup tie isn't it that I mean the gate money for them must be great look at Leicester City you've got players there on on monster money in league one and the pyramid just isn't built that way and all of the money is towards the top end as we know and I think that's why it's so difficult for championship teams to compete in the Premier League and I think that that filters down to the championship itself where the teams that have more modest budgets find it very difficult to compete you know footballers now if you were given the choice between playing for and I'm not saying QPR are like this but that's who we played at the weekend so it's an easy example if you're given the choice of playing for QPR or for portameth and QPR were offering you double the money it's a smaller club with less pressure less expectation I just think footballers now their agents make decisions for them that's the way football is and that's the way the pyramid is so do I think we'll survive I hope so do I think we're going to be in for a bumpy season again yeah probably I don't see us competing anywhere near the playoffs even though by the way lads they've extended the championship playoffs it's six teams instead of four my take now is that rexham will be in the Premier League next season through the through the championship playoff Lincoln oh wait Lincoln get eight for something yeah let's wrap up the pod then final prediction is for player of the season and top scorer and the top scorer in the Premier League this season will still be Irling Harland it's becoming so predictable isn't it it's just nailed on that's how that's how good he is I think outside of Harlan drought Pedro will have a good season right we all we all we all think Harland let's do player of the season and let's do worst signing worst signing we need that that's the that's the the meaty one I think the player of the season will be bicario sacca I think it's his time to actually show that he is what everyone says he is and I know that everyone rates him but in terms of output I'm not sure whether he provides enough goals and enough assists now let's not deny how good of a player he is he's shown it over the last few years and from a very young age but this is the sack of season I think this season now Arsenal will win the league again I think sacca will be the main man I think he'll be fitter I think it'll be stronger I think it'll be more confident and I fancy him to have his best goal scoring season for me player of the season will be sacca mine is a one of his teammates I think player of the season will be Gabrielle Magalash because I don't see Arsenal's going enough goals through one man for example like I don't think Giacoris is going to get 30 goals on win player of the season I think it'll be more of a team effort and one of the consistent members of that team will be Gabrielle I think they've got the best defense I think he'll recover from missing the penalty in the Champions League final do you think he's he's going to get over that and is that going to fuel him or he might get over it but Twitter won because every every clip I see of anything is is cut with him his penalty sort of over the top of it I guess I was like a good clip that he watched for an Arsenal I remember being in Madrid with a bunch of Parisians and it was it felt like I just won the title myself I've gone for another one of their teammates Declan Rice I think that with Bruno it allows him a little bit more permission to go forward and influence games a little bit more than he maybe has done where he's been a bit more box to box I think Bruno gives him a little bit more security let's say he doesn't have to do every single job in that midfield so yeah I think Rice could have a big season on his hands but yeah surely someone from Arsenal the way I think with Arsenal is they never have someone who's the top scorer in this team or they never have someone who looks nailed on for a play of the season because it's a very collective effort I know it sounds weird because obviously you need a good collector to win the title but it's not like a Liverpool winning it at Salas de Estandau or City Winner in Harland's the standout or Rodry there's always a very collective you know I mean I see what you mean I'm not sure I agree with them not having player of the season contenders but I do agree with you in terms of the top goal score because before Harland it was like that Manchester City you know Sterling would chip in with 15 Bernardo would get 10 Kevin De Bruyne would get 8 Rodry would pinch a couple and you know that's where they get their goals from all around the park and it's it's for me a little bit like that with Arsenal where Yocrest had a really good first season in the Premier League last year but you don't see him out scoring Harland but I do think that they do have player of the season contenders I think they did last year I just think naturally you would do if you were the best team in the league yeah I think well if unless I ask them absolutely capitulate and they feel the pressure of trying to retain it then it's nailed on I mean it feels like one of those seasons where they're surely going to have a sizable gap at the top I just don't see any team giving them any problems this season at all so yeah it's a time for them to create a bit of a dynasty isn't it? Well in nine months time it will be the final runnings of the Premier League season the 18th of May so I wonder what will be sat there saying the end of next season reflecting on the predictions we've made we'll be saying just how knowledgeable we are about our football insight and how incredible our predictions are most likely I'm not sure I can even bear to look back at last season they'll be saying wow they really got that worst signing right I'll throw a gun at you out there as well just to see what for worse signing yeah bitter the bitterness on that man's face I'm not bitter at all it's just reality it's different soon bitterness and reality now he's long gone long gone so I might not be in next Monday because we've got Liverpool at home and we can't even we can't even stream three passes together in preseason so yeah no we're signing the season for me I think I've gone for like biggest flop rather than just a bit crap but I think that you'll be a bit crap at Villa but biggest flop I've got two names Mateus Fernandez and Johann Manzambi I'm scared to play as I've really got World Cups and then decide like get a big move off the back of it I know he was class at Fryberg last season okay cool but I do worry he's going to be a bit of a flop and Mateus Fernandez just don't know how good he is but for 85 million you better be bloody good because you're signing for a team that's finished back to back 17th and it's because of your transfer fee that I've not gone for Sandra to Nally even though I hope with all my heart that Sandra to Nally does not complete a pass in the entire Premier League season coming up which because he's horrible would you have said Manzambi had Villa not hijacked him from Newcastle put it this way I could also have said biggest flop of the scene in season might be you know Eladji Bamber for Newcastle or Sean Sturff for Newcastle or Bazumana to riff for Newcastle but you could say the lot of yeah just say the the spot in direct we just don't know who they're going to be yeah we don't know how good they're going to be they could be class they could be shite you know it's the Gatusa situation sometimes maybe go sometimes maybe shit but I'm not gonna slag us off before we go right that is it for today's football social daily in the week leading up to the first game of a new Premier League season we always do our predictions and so there we have it we have our top four including Premier League champions the teams to go down the best and worst signings who's going to be sack first and our hot takes for the season all wrapped up into this episode and if you like football social daily you can help the podcast to grow by hitting subscribe or follow means a lot to us we dedicate a lot of our time through a season to doing this show we couldn't do it without your support as the listeners so if you are interested in supporting the pod please check out some of the links in the description share it amongst your friends maybe after the World Cup they're just getting into football for the first time they want to get to know Premier League football a little bit better I mean judging on today's opinions they might not get that but they can at least try to support the bottom if they like it but from Marley Joel and myself that's it for today's football social daily we'll speak to you again down the road catch you later
