Key Storylines
France — The Three-Peat Dream
2018 champions. 2022 runners-up. Can France become only the third team to win back-to-back World Cups? With the deepest squad in football, Deschamps' men are built for big tournaments.
Mbappe — Captain of France
At 27 and at peak power, Kylian Mbappe captains Les Bleus for what could be his defining World Cup. Real Madrid have sharpened him further — expect records to fall.
Senegal — AFCON Champions
Senegal won the Africa Cup of Nations and arrive with Sadio Mané's legacy driving them forward. Habib Diallo and Ismaïla Sarr provide threat. They won't be Group I walkover opponents.
Norway's World Cup Return
Norway last played a World Cup in 1998. Erling Haaland returns home's biggest stage hungry for international glory after years of Champions League dominance with City.
Griezmann — The Veteran Architect
Antoine Griezmann thrives on the big stage — he's been France's World Cup talisman since 2016. As creator and scorer, he's the key link between Mbappe and the rest.
Group of Entertainers
France attack, Senegal counter, Norway press relentlessly. Group I promises goals from the first whistle. The IC Playoff 2 winner (Iraq, Bolivia, or Suriname) adds a wildcard element.
