Key Storylines
Canada's Home Moment
Canada missed 36 years between World Cup appearances (1986–2022). Now they host on home soil — a once-in-a-generation chance to make the nation fall in love with football.
Alphonso Davies — The Catalyst
The Bayern Munich left-back is Canada's lightning bolt. Pace, technique, big-game experience — Davies on his home continent against top-tier opposition is appointment viewing.
Jonathan David — The Finisher
One of Europe's most prolific strikers, Lille's David has been clinical in Ligue 1. If Canada are to advance, his goals are the difference.
Switzerland — The Reliable Spoilers
Switzerland never panic. Granit Xhaka organises in midfield, Xherdan Shaqiri adds flair. They knocked France out at Euro 2020 on penalties — they fear no one.
Qatar — Defending Respect
The 2022 hosts were eliminated in the group stage but competed with grit. Having played a major tournament at home, Qatar's new generation carries experience and motivation.
UEFA Playoff A — European X-Factor
The playoff winner (Italy, Wales, Bosnia-Herzegovina, or Northern Ireland) completes Group B. Any of these sides would make this a genuinely open group.
