The Goncalo Inacio pursuit is pure chaos
AC Milan are currently circling Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio like a shark in a kiddie pool. According to reports from O Jogo, the pursuit is moving at a glacial pace despite the clear tactical blueprint Ruben Amorim has reportedly laid out. It is the classic transfer standoff where everyone involved expects the other side to blink first.
We have seen this movie before. Milan needs a left-footed center half who can actually move the ball, and Inacio is the trendy pick. But Sporting is not in the business of charity, and holding out for a release clause isn't exactly a strategy that gets you on the pitch before the season opener. If Milan doesn't pull the trigger soon, they are going to be left scrambling for a bargain-bin option in August.
The youth system is feeling the burn
While the front office plays poker over transfer fees, the actual depth chart is taking hits. Maximilian Ibrahimovic has officially packed his bags for Jong AZ. Seeing an Ibrahimovic name move on a permanent deal to the Eredivisie feels like a pivot point for a franchise that hasn't exactly been a masterclass in pathing for their academy kids.
It is not just the departures that sting though. The club just announced that young talent Karaca has been dealt a brutal hand with a pre-season injury. This kid finally earned a look in the newly reshaped squad, only to end up back in the medical room before the lights even hit the stadium for a real match.
The Amorim experiment needs actual bodies
You cannot install a high-octane tactical system with ghost players. Between the ongoing saga of clearing out the roster and the unfortunate medical reports, the squad feels thin in exactly the wrong places. Letting players like Ibrahimovic walk is fine if you have a plan to replace them, but right now, the plan looks like 'hope we don't pick up another knock.'
Milan should be focused on securing the backbone of this defense rather than debating whether Inacio is worth every single penny of his appraisal. You don't build a contender by pinching coins while your prospects are catching splinters in the training room. This is a massive test for the scouting department to see if they can pivot when their primary targets are literally held hostage by release clauses.
I am tired of watching teams operate like they are playing a career mode save on easy difficulty. Milan needs to be realistic. If they start the campaign with a makeshift partnership at the back, we are going to see 3 or 4 losses in the first month. These games matter as much in August as they do in May, but apparently, the front office is still napping.
