It's been a summer of change at Newcastle United, Sandra Tonali left for Spurs, Anthony Gordon, Simon Barcelona, Bruno Gomez could follow but now the biggest news of all, Eddie Howe has left the building. In what we described as a mutual agreement, Howe has packed his bags after 5 years in Chargers and Jim's park, with the front runner already in place to succeed him. We'll get into it all and today is football social daily with me, depressed Newcastle fan Marley Anderson and Mr. Holiday Man himself, Joel Tudor, how are you mate? Yeah, better than me, I reckon. I had a great time having a little wedding weekend in Paris, I didn't think I'd have to come back and console the Newcastle fan in Marley because the week of a comeback but I had a great week, don't know about you. My week was going okay until Newcastle played football last night and then we lost 4-1 to Bristol City, despite having like 75% possession or something but we lost 4-1 and looked absolutely terrible, at which point a lot of fans were overreacting and I say overreacting but also expressing their opinions which were based off the back end of last season as in saying how Eddie how has to go, it's gone stale, it's gone a bit, you know a bit, it's just died off a bit but I didn't expect the news in the morning to be sitting there having me morning cappuccino and I've Eddie how is set to leave the club filter through on my phone so yeah it's back to square one I think and I'm trying to understand because clearly it wasn't just the decision they made, I saw a lot of happy Bristol City fans saying I can't believe we've forced Newcastle to suck Eddie how just calm the expectation it wasn't because of Bristol City. I tell you what if you're Bristol City the one thing I know about Bristol City is that you they're the longest running championship side like they've been in the championship for longer than any other club because they don't go up they don't go down so essentially they're almost like the championship version of what we used to call Crystal Palace I mean just no ambition so when you get a result like this a 4-1 preseason win yeah I suppose you've got to click on to what you can get but yeah different strokes are different folks I think but yeah how's gone and her just want to know well first of all most how would you feel about him going not just now but like as a whole because from my perspective it feels like I mean I was saying to you just before the podcast podcast started if it was like at the end of an era a very good probably one of the best eras Newcastle have ever had in terms of you know having the first trophy in 50 odd years being back in the Champions League for the first time in 20 years being sundall and for the first time in what was it 13 years you know all these different things that he was shattering and the team played such great football the signings were excellent especially under Dan Ash with when he first came in and then it's all of a sudden just seemed to have come to a head where in my opinion it almost feels like this is necessary now where he's taking the team so far the players that he's almost raised have now departed or are slowly starting to depart and he's probably looking at the situation thinking I'm fighting against the wind here I've developed such a great side and I wanted to kick on but is it the case that you know I met Newcastle and we're always going to have to reach a certain level because my best players always want I always going to want to go to you know the elite clubs and now I'm left with having to rebuild again or do you feel like it's just right time right situation and it was always going to come you know prior to this summer maybe halfway through the last season potentially yeah I mean it's fun of that you mentioned like the wind there and it's sort of like changing and stuff I think the wind has gone out the sales of the project for a little while now and I've got to sound like a broker record but I do think it all starts with ESAC leaving I think that through such a massive bomb in the in the works of what was meant to happen you know like you know when for example like if you're you know if you're climbing Everest you don't climb it all in one go do you climb it in stages and the stage of winning the Karabakhub was was stage one of becoming what the project is set out to be so qualifying for the Karabakhub and getting into Champions League was like the biggest season you know probably in our recent history in our Premier League history the best season easy and then ESAC decided to leave and that set the tone of what club we were like oh god we've been hamstrung by him we didn't plan for this and the project was then chasing its own tail by trying to replace him on the fly getting wistering for 50 million 55 million was never a good deal but it was out of necessity Valtemarder as well nobody nobody had time to truly scout Nick Valtemarder and say he's the solution to our problem so what I'm trying to make by this point is at that point that's that's reaching base camp of Everest like that's that's step one but the club had to treat it as that was it that was it we've climbed Everest we've done it now and that was like that's not the way to go ever since then we've been chasing our tail had a bad bad domestic season last season you can probably say it was quite good in the Champions League because we got to the stage we got to although we then got battered by Barcelona so it was kind of what's the point if it just proves how far off the elite you are when you get beat 7-3 or 7-2 when aggregate on there sorry in the new camp we got absolutely murdered so it does feel like it's all just being a bit of like last season was an absolute liver punch of this is reality now like you've lost your best players you are going to have to keep on doing it and have you have you planned for that and I don't think the project has I think a lot of the the the board level stuff it's never it's never aligned with with Eddie Howe it's obvious that that's the case that there's clearly friction between board and and dug out because of Eddie Howe's close circle of trust it doesn't like really giving away too much too much decisions that he doesn't affect and part of being a club this size and trying to do what we're trying to do is that is going to have to happen and I think I said before in the podcast that I think the project would move faster without Eddie Howe because if you had a yes man in charge you would get bigger players quicker you wouldn't have Jacob Murphy in in in his seventh year at Newcastle or whatever it's been and still churning out dog shit performances every single week and still playing every week because Eddie Howe knows him and likes him you would bin him off to as soon as you would as you got interest and replacing with the next guy when I just think a lot of that is um is Eddie Howe's um and now it'd be interesting to see how aggressive we are in the in the window and and beyond really yeah because I know you talk about the the projects but I've always thought that I hate the word project because it always feels like it's some kind of overlord who's overlooking everything which is PIF and I feel like in the Newcastle situation you're always at the mercy of the like it's not even the own is it's the government and I don't want to take this to geopolitical but let's not forget the reason why Saudi wanted to go into sports was not only to kind of develop a new image of Saudi but ultimately it's to increase the GDP because that's where they want to put their money in and kind of diversify their assets and the moment they started to lose interest in that that becomes the downfall of Newcastle in a nutshell pretty much and now that for example the new guy coming in which seems to be Matthias Jassler from Al Ali obviously he's a one he's a club which is one of the four owned by PIF in the Saudi league so clearly it's just the matter of convenience rather than actually is he definitely the right guy out there in European football right now for Newcastle United and it just makes me think well it's is things going to improve with this guy versus Eddie Howe anyway just because I mean I don't know if you're happier unhappy with his is appointment but for me personally I just think it's what it almost feels like the way in which Chelsea go to Schrasberg and go and grab the next crop in the way in which PIF have gone to their club and said actually we've got a manager who's available to go and get a promotion for me it doesn't sit right is this are they looking out for the best interest of Newcastle here is it all just becoming Newcastle just one little piece of the big pie which is we just want to increase our GDP and now this is the most convenient move which is bring someone in from part of the project we already have well put it this way if this guy is the German Liam Rossini then we're completely fucked out with you're an agent man you're not a manager man oh my god yeah it's it's a it's a fair fair enough point I think when the manager you know was initially appointed it was it was the best man for the job they didn't even really consider him as a serious candidate I think they wanted to do an eye-emory and stuff like that and then they were massively impressed with how Eddie how you know presented himself and presented his vision for the club and it's it's paid off like he's is the most successful manager in our recent history and he can lay that on the table and blow everyone else out the water and he's a very very very good manager I just think the difference now is there's no Amanda Stavley anymore and she was a massive middleman middlewoman in terms of the Saudis and the English she had that middle ground of like you don't you don't really do this now it'll work better like this and we don't have that anymore we don't have that buffer on that communication between the two sides so now it is the PIF in charge and they will go and get the easiest guy they can which is this this fella from Ali and yeah he's completely untested I don't know a thing about the guy all I know is that one thing who titles with Ali the two leagues is 38 and that's pretty much it to be honest by just for me personally and I think you're right there it's just it just feels like they're going for convenience right now I do feel like they've almost lost an interest in the project you know when you when they first came in and Dan Ashworth came in and they were making you know the Alice and the Isaac first signing and Anthony Gordon and Lewis Hall and it all felt like momentum was building and now it's seen well Gordon's gone, Tanali's gone, I bet my absolutely everything that Bruno's going to go if there wasn't a moment where he was potentially considering now that Eddie Howe's gone I have no doubts in my mind now that he'll think he's looking around the ship and he's thinking all my best guys next to me who were meant to be taken to the next level have now gone on to bigger and better things and I definitely feel he's a loyal guy but when you're at 29 years of age and you've only got what three four years left in your peak why are you going to stick around for a kind of uncertain project now before it felt certain it felt like Newcastle were going in a direction now it feels like they're trying to figure themselves out again the assignments feel like a table low to what happened when they were doing it four years ago it felt like way more ambition four years ago now it feels like you're starting from the scratch board again of what direction do we want to go into and that's why I have my doubts about the direction that PAF are taking this quote unquote project in is it just now a project which is one on the side you know one which goes on the bat burner and the trying just kind of maintaining it at a minimum level that's the thing that I worry about for Newcastle and Newcastle yeah well that's a suppose that's a million dollar question we'll we'll never know we'll we will never know what they're they're sort of true plan is I think what's pushed anyhow is the fact that we're losing players which is understandable I get that players when you finish 12th nearly you're going to want to leave especially if they're clearly better than that Tanali Gordon Bruno they are the problem is like there's been a clear shift in in the profile of player we're bringing in this summer if you look at our signing so far you know you and Joen from from Reem 20 million quid if you watch our second goal we conceded against Bristol City last night it was like a hologram it was turd absolutely rubbish but still he's a 20 year old kid as a could probably come in as a backup goalkeeper I question why we're spending 20 million on a backup goalkeeper because even though fees have gone mental in in this transfer window if you're spending 20 million on a backup goalkeeper surely that money can be better spent elsewhere move on eladji bambas just came in he's played 400 minutes from Monaco he's 20 or 19 years old he's not he's not experienced he's not he's not he's not played outside France he's barely played in France for god's sake bringing him in as Sandro Tanali's replacement it's like wow that's a big ask that's a huge ask Sean stir coming in from iax only broken to the iax team halfway through last season mid 27 appearances for iax now he moves the new castle for 25 27 million whatever it is it looks a really good player in terms of what we've seen of him so far get on the ball typical iax player you know passes through the lines brave with his passing and play making but still it's a huge ask because he's probably going to be the replacement for for Bruno Gamaris so all of a sudden like Bruno Gamaris is drew back in training tomorrow and he's going to turn up and say what the fuck are we doing here what is the plan here because Tanali's gone a fellow in his prime for 90 million he's been replaced by a 20 year old who we don't know jack shit about um bazu mana two rear we've signed him as god's replacement east 20 was on the bench in the workup for ivory coast i think it was and again really bright talent but talent it's it's potential it's not it's not somebody like anti-gordon who's going to get you this amount of goals and assists per season you know what i mean you can't rely on those types of people and then that's that's just replacement for the ones that's left that's not even ignoring that is ignoring sorry the glaring fault we had last season the strikers didn't work right together we ended the season with will a soulless going six and eight games and everyone that's blessed with the vision uh that blessed with the um the benefit of having eyes knows that will a soulless just out a crazy player he's not he's not necessarily a good player he's just chaotic sometimes the chaos works a lot of the time it doesn't so like if that's your center forward and Bruno Gamaris comes back in it says right what's the plan to replace tenali oh it's him over there what at 20 year old kid who can't even speak english all right great that's i'm off to arsenal because i'm 29 i want to win the league i want to try and win the champions league this ain't going to happen here so he's he's probably going to leave as well and it's we're going to end up with this bizarre situation where we bring in 300 million pounds worth of players um of income through four players sold or something like that and not not spending it to to move forward we're spending it on potential that might that might move us forward eventually but right now it's just uh yeah it's it's awful and it's no surprise to see Eddie how on the back of a four one defeat to Bristol just go i really doubt this project i really doubt the the profile of player we're bringing in to replace the profile of player we had because nobody in in that project upstairs knows what tenali garden and Bruno brought to this team Eddie how does he seen them every day he played with them he he discussed things with them tactically and everything like that they're they're the blueprint for hate for Eddie how's new castle and they're all gone you've essentially gone from a dossier to a blank piece of paper and it's like wow okay where'd you go from here and the future looks grim to be honest yeah i think there's been two instances this summer where Eddie how's thought no matter how hard i try with this team i'm not going to push it to the next level i think one we're seeing tenali go to spurs despite them just the scape in relegation i think he thought surely we're the better suited option for tenali but he's chosen to go to a team that wouldn't on the brink of relegation and i think losing out on manzambi to aston villa when i think he was probably a key target i think he's thought we just can't attract the level that we used to be able to attract because like you say when when the when the project was first up and running and they started to go heavy in the transfer market they were signing players that had a bit of bit more assurance to their names you know Bruno Gamaras was a big name at leon at the time zandra tenali was a massive name in italian football at the time as andoreezac was a huge name in spain at the time all these players had a bit of status to them now it feels like it's gone almost towards rolling the dice i almost feel as though the market's maybe left new castle behind in the sense that you they can't quite afford to do that anymore and the teams that have actually been generating you know revenues and they've been selling correctly i think they've kind of moved with the market i think we knew castle that maybe if you guys got taken over in 2010 when there was no strains attached you probably would have absolutely blitzed this market and it would have been an easy eat like i have nothing half the plays were left i think with the difficulties now in maneuvering i genuinely think the market's moved behind and you have to you almost have to find these gems in the rough and hope that they started to become the next big thing but if i was somewhere like Bruno Gamar is about someone like Eddie how i'd be thinking we had such a top solid team that was going for top four year on year and now i'm having to roll the dice with kids when i had men that were playing for me i think i think it's a sad state of affairs i think Eddie how's probably took it as far as he can take it i don't think he has the energy anymore for that i think he had such a great team that was going places and now he's thinking i've got a grower crop of kids it's just not the right scenario for him i think it's i think it's the right thing to do to bonus from any house perspective all right welcome back to fsd um we're just discussing the or dissecting i should say the the absolute one stress it it is new castle united right now and plenty else going on in the football world but for now for today or on the back of this breaking news we're just going to focus on new castle and also i'm editing the podcast and i'm hosting it and there's no nile so there's no rules so soddit we're talking about new castle get used to it nile niles actually a way doing some darts in germinate the minute in fingle dingin or one of them random little germin villages it'll be back next week and by which point matias yassel might be in charge of new castle united because is the reporter that it's advanced talks already which suggests that this was in the pipeline for a little while the i think the term officially coming out of new castle well not out of new castle at the time of recording but is that it's a mutual agreement between club and and eddie how that is something that gets thrown around a lot and it's never mutual you see like a a manager lose eight gums in a row and then say it's mutual and then it's never it really isn't but i do genuinely think this is mutual in terms of the project i know sorry i i also hate the the use of the word project by the way but i just keep using it because i've been brainwashed into using it um but yeah it does feel mutual it feels like we're saying before the break there that eddie how has just gone ah i i don't want to go again i don't want to have to replace these players because i don't believe in the project and he's he's communicated that to the board i think and the board has said okay we'll go with someone else like if everyone's happy thank you for the five years thank you for the carobark up thank you for saving the globe because it took it took something else to save where we were people need to remember this we were 19th in the league i think maybe even bottom at one point he took over from Steve Bruce who doesn't even know what football is compared to eddie how like there's horror stories coming out of of of um of the Steve Bruce times about chucking a ball on the pitch and saying let's play and that was training and stuff like that it's it's awful where we were um but it seems like Matthias Yassel um um yeah he's currently in charge of all Ali uh won a couple of championships with them i think he's been at red bull soltsburg before that um and yeah it's it's it's a it's a tall asking it Joel come on how do you see the next season going because she's there you go let's go deeper than next question let's go deeper than what does shit mean because you've you've look at the you're starting eleven right now you've lost your two you're about to lose two of your best midfielders and going off the comments that eddie how i made after they gave me his breast crystal city i don't believe her a second he thinks he's going to stay then you've lost Anthony Gordon who was you know probably you're you're shining light in that attack last season all of a sudden you're looking at that core of team now gone replacing them with kids you've got a manager who is coming in that nobody knows too much about and obviously coming from the Saudi league i think a lot of people probably have questions of like how ready is he for you know competitive like european football again especially in the Premier League do you worry that the club could go so far down and decline to the point where you might end up in a spur situation for example where you're literally at the foot of the the Premier League thinking we have dagger a digress so badly that he's gotten to a point where we can't truly survive in the league anymore um that seems extreme but also when you when you look at the players we've lost we've lost the heart of the team we've lost all the talent in the team we've lost all the creativity in midfield we've lost um you know our best winger basically on on the wing as well you know with Gordon was you know he was only half hour's last season but he still put up decent numbers and and decent performances at times we've still not got a goalkeeper we've still not got to ride back trippiers left you know liver mental is injured more than he's fit and yeah it um it put it this where i was i was wondering yesterday when we do our um preseason predictions and we do like 1 to 20 and underachievers and overachievers i thought i wonder where i'm going to put new castle because as of right now we're not we're not going to finish top half we're we're going to be lucky to finish where we did last season 12th 14th somewhere like that like it depends on the gamble of of 20 year olds and more often than not that that doesn't happen you can maybe bring one 20 year old into the squad and play him here and there and find out what he's about but it's such an ask to put if we start bamba stir and um tourer in the team every week it's just such a steep learning curve i've got no doubt at the good players no doubt at all but also you put them in the best league in the world at 20 years old combined age of three of them was 60 or slightly under 60 and you're asking them to just sink or swim and more often than not people saying you need big characters sadrath and alie when we signed him was captain of ac malad he was also a furious gambling addict which no one knew but um yeah still the point remains Bruno Gamarashi i don't think he was captainately on but he was one of the leaders and you can tell by Bruno Gamarashi and he's character that he instantly just was massively motivated to do well you learn english in like three months and was giving interviews like immediately proper leader of a man mega almeron spent six years or so at Newcastle and never spoke a fucking word of english by by contrast like he's still asking somewhere and he goes okay and he's like what you know you're happy see that's it like what on earth are you doing um still you know it's just it's just a mega ask and i can't say it going well i know i'm just looking at it now and i really do think the health of next season for Newcastle truly depends on what happens to Bruno because if he was to come out and just say actually you know what i'm gonna fight this year for the team and i'm gonna try and you know i'll help as much as i can i think it was such a boost for the whole club and i think people will start to believe in it a little bit more considering right now i think the optimism and the sentiment is at an all time low but if he now jumps as well and like you say bringing in so many kids why not bringing a bit of experience as well because in that midfield now you're going to have what Jolene says going to be the only one left he's going to be the now senior player i think Jolene's in the running to be captain next year because Bruno and Tanali were were senior Bruno was captain um and now we're we're possibly giving it to big Joe what i mean the pecking order is just going down and down isn't it might end up getting to uh buddy what's his name is your keeper that you absolutely hate uh nick pope yeah man are getting to nick pope but there's very little sales that are going on oh if you give it to him he'll drop it yeah but it's just i just i'm so intrigued to see how this new manager will be because slightly say when uh Steve Bruce was leaving in the what did he and i emery or the what did Eddie how he josey merino was kind of tinted in there at some point i'm just really intrigued to see how he takes doing how the team takes the him as well because it's going to be such a new look style team and i just i don't know if this day was always coming for new castle where eventually when all these players start to peek and they're going to get picked off was there ever a planning place but i like i like to say at the very start of the podcast i think that uh Alice and the rezak departure on the on was it in the last day of last year i think that just sent tidal waves around the club and the plans which were never in the plans that they had to reaction are really uh reactionarily quickly do i don't think they were prepared for that at all and it just forced their hand into decisions which never would have been made in the first place and i think that's just started the domino effect of what we've seen the last year which is poor recruitment um i think a lot of players satisfaction in terms of where the team are going and the thing is ultimately led to eddie how believing as well yeah agreed um i think just on the transfer thing obviously we've we've had you know like you said before isak bruno and tenali and people are that coming in um and even at nicodon my my sort of take on on that whole thing is i think i think we had it right i think we had our transfer strategy okay because we were signing players as we as we touched on before with they were big characters they were big they were leading players at their clubs you know and nicodon was the brightest talent in the everton we went and got him bruno gamara is playing for leon big club just outside the elite in um in france went and got him san drudson ali captain of a simalan yeah he's asterisk which was the gambling thing and and what have you but he's still undoubted quality future the the um it's all your national team he was tipped as and still is or the the present now we had it right i don't see there wasn't any need in my opinion for a huge uh change in in transfer policy i think they've been led by um the the fees going mental and the fact that they've thought well if we buy if we buy younger players and they proved to be amazing we could have a hundred million pound players like left right and center but in reality those hundred million more players they don't progress into those players most of the time like a lot of them just how many cases of unsung potential unfulful potential other in the premier league that how many young players go for big fees and don't kick on it just happens all the time i just thought new castle needed to go with their money and with their um ambitions in hand and go and bully some of the smaller clubs that we've done before for example everton were in a mess when we went and took anti-godden off them i think could we not have gone to not in forest and said we want Gibbs White to replace um Gordon we've got 200 million in the bank if they want 85 90 million for him we've got the money to pay for it so why not go and sign players that are around around the mid 20s and leading leading their teams around around the world because if you sign a player that's 25 and you get three good years out of him before an elite club has a look at him and goes oh we want him you've then got a 28 year old player who is less likely to be looked at by the big clubs like Bruno Gomez right now is quite lucky that Arsenal want him because he's 29 and that's that's the asterisk sort of holding a lot of it that's why he's not going to real with you know basketball and if he was 24 he'd be there but he's not he's 29 and people are holding the holding back on him a little bit because of his age but we signed him as a 25 year old so if you sign in players at that point in their career you give yourself their prime and then you get to cash in if they're good enough whereas if you sign 20 year olds and they don't go on to be amazing i would sign 200 if a 30 or 40 million or whatever it was you then just stuck with a 40 million pound dud on the wing you know what i mean it's just it's yeah i just just it's just like what when i'm when i'm looking at new castle i don't even think their transfer policy has changed apart from this summer i just think that they've been very either very slow i mean the amount of transfers that they've had hijacked this summer has been crazy but also just i think the player the plays i mean i looked at a graphic just before if the failed transfers last summer and it's quite easy to forget that if these transfers had gone through because they were close we'd be talking about a completely different scenario where you know Benjamin sesco had man United and backed out of that he would have been a new castle player ecotica he went on to look amazing at Liverpool Liverpool how many chances did new castle have to get him until they were picked by psg and they were picked by Liverpool and burmo he was linked with new castle very early on in that summer gay he he was linked with new castle very early in that summer before city ended up coming in in January and taking him and kudos another one there's been so many names of players that were just very close and then another team just swooped in and taken them i think their targets in that like their talent ideas great but i just think in terms of attracting and getting deals over the line they've slowly regressed and they just see i mean even that man's ambiwam everyone knew very quickly that this play i mean even i i've not seen him at fryberg but judging from the reporters he looked like he was growing at fryberg and then ultimately in the in the world cup he just looked great and it looks like new castle were just one foot over the line then all of a sudden the sweep in and take a estimate or take him and then if it's just very poor negotiation team or very poor recruitment reactions or it's just the fact that this is the situation which is they can't quite afford to go to the next level in terms of fees the markets left them and now they're having to resort to just trying to identify an owner talent but that takes time doesn't it? it does yeah you know if if if bazo mana tori becomes one of the world's best wingers it isn't going to be in three months it's going to be in three years exactly so you know what i mean it's that's what winding up like we've been linked with Antonia Nusa the guy looked unbelievable at the workup brilliant and he's playing for a big club like can you not go and get that deal done? it's no some reason we're going for bazo mana tori because it's easier to sign players from hoffenheim than it is from uh Red Bull Leipzig and it's like right okay is that where we're at? because I think the project has been mishandled I think there's a lot of opportunities we could have done differently and and what have you but we'll have to wait and see what happens this season who knows they could all be world class and we could finish second in the league and and god knows what but if that happens I'll eat my hat live on fsd and film it and stick it on youtube and everything because that will be um quite a turn up for the books as it stands live a pool on the opening day fantastic can't wait for that one um and that's what 22 days away uh I believe it's away I would look with that one then mate yeah I mean it's under he's like hat trick he's going in my yeah it's um it's not uh it's not looking fantastic oh sorry it's at home it's at home um okay maybe just one so maybe it's a bazo mana tori hat trick and isak praises like again I don't know um yeah it's at home so a nice a nice um depressing start to the season ever and you can't see united but we'll wait and see maybe by the time we next do an fsd everything will have changed who knows they probably have a new manager by that point I might have been brim washed into thinking is the greatest thing since sliced bread but in reality I'm a little bit pessimistic for the upcoming season um speaking of the upcoming season we'll bring you everything on fsd as usual throughout preseason as its turmoil continues to turn and we'll go into the new season with fresh minds and fresh hopes and fresh fresh expectations man you're going to win the league according to Joel Newcastle are going to get relegated according to me and pump you're going to stay firmly in the championship according to Nile who said to us the other day on on text message to team Joel I just don't want to get to the Premier League because it looks absolutely just non-competitive um yeah you know survive you know
