🎧 Listen to Original Episode →

💬 Key Quotes & Speaker Breakdown

Andoni Iraola's tactical style

"He's not the sort of manager that you're going to necessarily see playing clever patterns in his own box. He just doesn't see the risk. He would rather see the ball get forward as quickly as it can and get it to the players that can make a difference."

— Jamie Redknapp

Alexander Isak's tactical role

"Probably my demands will not be about the goals. I know that he's fit, he's in a good shape. He's going to produce the numbers. My fights with him are more about other stuff, about how to help the team in all the situations."

— Andoni Iraola

Alexander Isak's form

"You have to believe in yourself, you have to have the belief of the fans that you are the man when you come for such a lot of money. That expectation, that pressure that it brings—he had a terrible, unfortunate injury last year."

— Jamie Redknapp

Liverpool transfer window

"I'm still really optimistic about what Liverpool have done in the window. They've got Barcola in. And they've got to build slowly. There's no point wasting money right now."

— Jamie Redknapp

Liverpool tactical approach

"We were talking about, like, when we win the ball to get it forward as quickly as possible, because that's when things are quite open."

— Alexander Isak

Cody Gakpo's importance

"I said it before the transfer window was closed, he's important for us. He will be important this season as well and he showed it today again, last week as well, and over the last couple of years as well."

— Virgil Van Dijk

Ipswich performance analysis

"Two sort of mistakes in the first 10 minutes that make it very, very difficult, but then I think probably the best side for large parts after that. We are here for points, so next week, we need to make sure we try and take some."

— Gary O'Neill

Gakpo and Isak partnership

"We try to get to know each other even better every time again and hopefully we can assist each other many times, so he owes me a few assists now."

— Cody Gakpo

Virgil Van Dijk's leadership

"I think for every centre-back now to play next to Virgil, I think it's a master-class, it's a lesson."

— Andoni Iraola

Welcome to the SkySport Premier League podcast. The weekend kicked off on Friday night at Portland Road as Ipswich took on Liverpool. Here's how the game finished. And this the night to Friday night in early September when Andy Iriola really gets the show on the road. His first Liverpool win, his first Liverpool clean sheet and a first Liverpool dava for Alex Adlerysak. It came before we'd really started two goals in the space of three minutes inside the first ten minutes of the match. Two clinical finishes. Lovely touches in the build up and then Liverpool able to hold on and see the job through. Ipswich Huffton puffed but as Chris was saying throughout the night they lacked the quality in the final third. So it's back to back to feats for their mouth to that promising start here. Another sprinkling of a hundred million pound players with Bradley Barclay coming on and making his debut. Chris Liverpool all smiles. Yeah and it's a it's a big win for the manager and only Iriola. Three points and his striker looking sharp scoring two goals and a clean sheet as well into the bargain. We mentioned their record last season. We could see there's far too many goals. Alison not much work to do for Gary O'Neill. Plenty to think about brilliant opening day with a couple of defeats. He'll want his team to be more competitive. Well there will of course be bigger tests for Liverpool but the problem right back position was well filled in by Ronald Arralhout who helped them to that first clean sheet of the season just their second in fourteen Premier League games when you look back to the last campaign and the way that that one ended in such desperate style and then who's going to play on the left who's going to play on the right. Well it all turned out nice on the night didn't it? Absolutely did it. He did pretty well. Ronald Arralhout little cameo from Italy Barclup on the left hand side he looked sharp in moments but all in all a good night for Liverpool. Last time they were here they won 2-0 to give on a slot his first win. Tonight they win 2-0 to give Andoni Iriola his. Kelly. Thank you very much to Bill and to Chris and Alexander Ezek is the man of the moment Jamie Rednapp. The Liverpool fans are singing Alexander Ezek's song there he's got two goals in this game it wasn't a spectacular performance from Liverpool but was it an important one for them and was an important one for that man. Well I start with that man first absolutely you know you have to believe in yourself you have to have the belief of the fans that you are the man when you come for such a lot of money that expectation that pressure that it brings is that a terrible unfortunate injury last year and you're going to hear the Liverpool fans you know they absolutely love what they saw today he was magnificent some of his skills his movement but that comes maybe because of the goal he got last week and the confidence that that brings so fingers crossed for Liverpool fans and for him you can carry this on. Alexander Ezek is going to join us here pitch side very shortly before that we can hear from Virgil Van Dyke and Cody Gatko with David Craig. Virgil, Cody congratulations Virgil the first Premier League winner this season and was that a more complete all-round Liverpool performance tonight. I think that we're more direct in the beginning obviously that's what we wanted for the danger and that I'll create a bit of care on second ball fight and also with the quality that we have great goals for the outstanding so good win and on to the next. How big a contribution did the man alongside you make and how pleased are you that he's here with you this season. That's it we obviously I said it before the transfer window was closed he's important for us you will be important this season as well and he showed it today again last week as well this is and over the last couple of years as well and I'll keep going. Cody great praise from your skipper how happy are you that you're here and involved and your form to start this season. No I think it was a great game today from outside obviously some things we have to improve still but yeah much needed to win from us and yeah very happy that we got the three points and yeah happy with the performance. I think Alexander Ezek will be very happy with you but he'll be assistant all his goals this season it's just something of a special partnership brewing between the two. Yeah we will see I think obviously as a tech as we always train together we try to to get to know each other even better every every time again and hopefully we can assist each other many times so he owes me a few assists now. We'll put it we make sure he knows that Virgil with Alexander is yet like almost having a new player after the disappointment for him at last he's been the frustration. I don't think the quality is anything that we've done last year he had an unfortunate bad injury and it was down to him the hard work that he put in each and every day to get back as quickly as possible and I've said it all already many times he's going to be important even today I think he had a very good world cup he had a very good pre-season he's getting up to speed now and we've seen our good years playing against him and I was going to show the world with a Liverpool shot as well. A bit of a new look back for Liverpool this season with new faces and a clean sheet tonight how big a bonus is that when they've been hard to come back by in the Premier League and racing games. I felt like forever so I'm grateful you survived that so you go home now recover every focus in Champions League. And finally Cody you can hear the fans singing behind what's the sense and the mood of this Liverpool team underground only area and what lies ahead. Hopefully beautiful things ahead I think like first we had a good pre-season altogether and we have to build on that and like I said today the first win hopefully first of many and yeah outstanding support like always and yeah build together. Well listen congratulations to both and we should have had more trophies to give away but we've only got the one and I think you know who got it. We will be able to give that to Alexander Eastack very shortly but he'll have loved playing with Cody Gack Poe. Three goals for Alexander Eastack so far this season including two here at Portman Road all of them have been assisted by Bat Poe who could in this transfer window have moved to Manchester City he stays at Liverpool and that's what Virgil Van Dyke is captain and his Netherlands teammate is so pleased about is they make their way off the pitch we will be joined as well by Alexander Eastack as the Liverpool fans the travelling Liverpool fans sing Cody Gack Poe's name as he turns round to acknowledge him as they head back into the dressing room on the right end of that two-nil score line. So the Premier League weekend is up and running and it continues tomorrow Newcastle United Alexander Eastack's former side in action at lunchtime they're up against Bournemouth. Brentford at home to Sunderland it's Brighton against Leeds, Fulham Crystal Palace, Manchester City at home to Coventry, Nottingham Forest against Tottenham and Saturday night football five o'clock for the coverage on Sky Sports Premier League ahead of that 530 kickoff, Hull against Aston Villa. Super Sunday starts at Hill Dickinson Stadium ever turned against Manchester United and then it's Arsenal against Chelsea both of those on Sky Sports Premier League. I'm still a firing from the attacker puttiness, champions cruising, a flying star team deed under Javier also. The dodging run and suckers there in scores. And Chelsea are heading home for the hills and far away not far from perfection. Have you seen Chelsea yet yourself? Yeah I've seen them. What do you think? See you on Sunday. So much to look forward to this weekend and that Super Sunday is a special one as two managers from the same part of Spain and you can watch the documentary on them on the Sky Sports digital channels that's available tomorrow. You'll get a taste of for it in the build up to Super Sunday as well Saturday night football Hull against Aston Villa five o'clock on Sky Sports Premier League. Then Everton Manchester United followed by Arsenal against Chelsea on Super Sunday. And if you think you can predict these six scores correctly, you can enter for free for the chance to win a million pounds. Super six and you can access it by scanning the QR code that you can see on your screen right now. And Fightland has a new episode every Thursday 50 Cent on the production team in that one. It's a revenge thriller set in the world of London boxing. It's Friday night. You might be in the mood for that. We are very much in the mood to take a look back at Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Ipswich here at Portman Road. It's been a good start for season for Ipswich in terms of performances, but beaten this evening thanks to two goals from Alexander Ezek. Hi, it's Hannah Wilkes from the Sunday Supplement podcast. Let's get back to the studio for more reaction to today's game. This gag poem is into Ezek. What a blistering finish from Alexander Ezek. Every 32 minutes, he apologies the back of the tractor boys neck. They're not a finish yet because he's on the move here running up trees. Ezek, he's got another. Well, it's this to be the night that Alexander Ezek really arrives for Liverpool. Two goals for Alexander Ezek to assist for Cody Gatko. And it's Cody Gatko who assisted Ezek's goal last weekend as well. And he's just making his way over to join us here, pitch side at Portman Road. Alex, hi. Thanks very much for coming over. Congratulations. Thank you. Big three points, big to get the first win of the season, but a big night for you as well. Did it, did it feel like an important performance in an, an important evening? Yeah, for sure. Obviously we was waiting for, for the first win. And we were talking about starting the game good, which we haven't done recently. So that was perfect for us to get two quick goals. Do you feel that you're playing your way into, into this season, having had such a difficult time last time? Yeah, of course, of course, with, you know, a normal preseason. And I think, you know, we're starting to get the, you know, the way we want to play and be offensive and, you know, attack, attack the defence. And I think we, we showed that today we, we scored two and we, we could have scored more. I don't talk about the human side of being a footballer because last year when you arrived at Liverpool, you cost an awful lot of money, lots of pressure. You didn't have your first game till September, then you broke your leg in, I think, December. And then you came back, didn't play 90 minutes at all. How difficult was that for you? It was, it was not easy, obviously, it was a, a long injury, a difficult season in general, which I kind of was thinking, you know, to have a good World Cup firstly and then to start off this season well, which, which I feel like, like I've done now. And that's kind of behind me, but, yeah, obviously it was, wasn't easy. And the good part, let's talk about those goals, because they were good. Yeah, can you talk us through, give us a bit of pun, the tree here, please? Yeah, we were talking about, like, when we win the ball to, to get it forward as quickly as possible, because that's when, when things are quite open. So, yeah, obviously, Cody, find me, find me twice, pretty good and, yeah. He says you are, I'm a couple of assists now. I'll probably do, I'll probably do. But that relationship seems to be developing really well, but three goals this season and all three assists from Cody Gattper. Yeah, I mean, he's done amazingly, you know, assisting and finding, finding me in those situations and in good positions where we're, enjoy having the ball. I want to show you this one here, Alexander, because you made a run, a little bit of frustration, that you want that ball played in behind, but then you get yourself back on side really quickly. Lovely ball by Cody, and then these four beautiful touches from you. Yeah, that's nice, that's nice. Yeah, that's nice. I want a bit more. Yeah, come on, that was more than nice. It's not just instinct when you're, when you're in the situation. Yeah, I enjoy being in those positions, you know, especially off the left. So, yeah, I think the more I get in those positions, the better I will do. Alex, when you're running through, it looks like you're just looking at the ball, but in terms of Sherpens position in his goal, do you know where he is to just get that half a yard to then finish that with your left foot? I think that's purely instinct. So my instinct probably knew where he was, but I just, you know, everything goes well. And it's amazing to see you playing with that instinct now and like you say, a good world cup, a good, strong preseason behind you. Do you feel like if you're given that service this season to find those pockets that it showed with the first goal, your first touch instinctive finish, you're ready to take that challenge on and lead that front line for Liverpool? Yeah, for sure, for sure. And we have, we have so much threat up front. And I think, you know, all of us, if we win the ball, play forward and try to attack, I think all of us will enjoy our offensive game. You mentioned playing forward and only obviously wants that. He seems, as soon as you won that ball back for the first goal, he wants that ball played forward to you guys. That must be music to your ears as well. Yeah, for sure. If you think about it, that's when you win the ball, that's when one teams are unorganised. And if you can get the ball forward quickly, that's when you can hurt the opposition. And if you've got any numbers, any ideas or how many goals, you know, because it's a great start for you now, three and three, you must be very excited. Yeah, still early. I think we still have a lot to learn and I think game by game at this point. And the Liverpool fans are seeing the real Alexander Ezek. Yeah, starting to get the support was unreal today and very, very much appreciated. Yeah, they were singing your song quite vocally at the end of that game there. When you said it yourself, you talk big picture about what the manager wants, that he wants to get the ball forward quickly. In terms of what he wants from you, is it fair to say you're probably going to get fewer touches maybe of the ball than you would do it at Newcastle, for example, but that you have to be really efficient with them. Is that something that you've talked about or looked at? Yeah, some games, some games might be like that. And then you have to stay ready and try to be effective once you get the ball. But I think games like today, I felt like I was pretty involved in the game and hopefully you can go on like this. Two shots on target, two goals, two no win, which means you are the Premier League player of the match. Thank you. Thank you very much. Good to talk to you and thank you for coming over. Thanks very much. Well done. Congratulations. So Alexander Isak, a player of the match in this game, and we talked about him and what he brings and the way that he describes how big a season this potentially could be. I mean, you've been there, Jamie, coming back from a serious injury, particularly for a player who's only just joined the club, who's only just got back to fitness and then breaks his leg scoring a goal. For the new club. Absolutely, Kelly, and it's the worst. And what it showed you as well, he didn't, he didn't have a preseason obviously because of when he left Newcastle in difficult situations. And it's a little bit like the same thing with this are at Newcastle. He didn't have a preseason, but you see now how he started the season. You never underestimate what it's like if you haven't had that. And for him, right now, he'll just feel so good when he sees those goals going in. Because there's no doubt about relief relief. Absolutely, mate, because he'll be in a question. Am I what's happened to me? It's like you feel like you've been spaced out. Someone's took your talent. What's happened? Why can't I do what I was doing when I was at Newcastle? And in all of a sudden, now we're just seeing a player that just looks absolutely full of confidence, fantastic goals. And that's what we wanted to see because you do have those doubts. And I'm sure now this manager that's walking over behind me is thinking, I'm going to reap new awards at this because I on the slot never had that luxury. But for this manager, definitely he will. And he joins us now and don't eat her all out. Hello, nice to see you. Congratulations on the victory. Just nice to get that first win. Yes, nice, nice. We need it. Definitely need this one. Also, the way it has been, I think, with a clinch sheet. And I think controlling the game quite well. I think we started really strong. And then it was another kind of second half, not as good, probably as the first one. But we didn't consider also clear chances, I think. We just spoke to Alexander E second and took through his goals. How important is he going to be for you going forward? And how important is it that you've got him fit and playing his way into this season? It's a massive player for us, no? Probably my demands will not be about the goals. I know that he's fit, he's in a good shape. He's going to produce the numbers. My fights with him are more about other stuff, about how to help the team in all the situations. But it's good that he has already played two games full and today also a very good amount of minutes, scoring the goal. So I'm very happy to have him here. Tell me a bit more about that, about the way that you want him to maybe get a bit more involved. I think today we were much, much better in our press, especially in the first half. So we were recovering very high. And then we can contact with him in good positions, no? If we recover the ball lower, I think it's going to be more difficult to find him. If you will have less spaces, so it's a matter of collective effort. So we can put our number nine in situations like he had to do. And it worked perfectly for Alexander Esek there with his two goals. There was a moment as well, I think, with one of the goals, when you're on the touch, I can see, as soon as you're pointing to get that ball played as quickly as you can into his feet. And that's something that others you did at Ballmouth. How important is that the players get to understand what you want? Yes, I think this is the part of the process. No, I think we want to risk in that, when we recover the ball in that, look forward at the good ball recovery, yes. And it's the moment where you can find some spaces, no? Call it as very well, but there is spaces between the defenders. And we can give our nine chances. No, otherwise, if you wait, you play a safety pass, probably those spaces will not be there. Is that something you identified when preparing for it, which obviously seeing that they sometimes do a bit more expansive, or that would just be a feature of your play moving through as a team throughout the season? We want to be something in our DNA. It's something that we have in all the games. It's true that they are also very good doing this. We have to be very careful as defensively, because they are also very good in transition. They've scored a lot of goals, first two goals of the season in very good transition. So it was today who could get, I think, the press better, the ball recovery higher, so it can give better chances to the forwards. How much you enjoy in the centre-back partnership? Jeremy Jacques, it looks a good play. 21 years of age, and obviously Verge, we could learn a lot from, but that looks a really formidable partnership right now. Yes, obviously. I think for every centre-back now to play next to Verge, I think it's a master-class, it's a lesson, it's a... A great. Yes, and in this case, Jeremy has been his first full-game. Physically, first two games he couldn't finish them. He was tired. Today there was a moment. The second half, I was in doubt, because I saw him a little bit. You know, I think he was really beautiful, he made one little mistake. But I think he has to go through those periods, to the end of the game well, and slowly he will keep building the fitness. And when you're preparing for today, you midfield balance, obviously, you could have had it right, grab and birch in there, maybe to counteract it to its turn-over possession, but you went with a different balance today. What was the thoughts behind that? I think Macalister is a smart player. He understands very well the position in. He played really well today. I was a little bit worried with the yellow card, because he got to, I think, to chip yellow card. And he was paying well. You were like, okay, he's paying well, but it's in a yellow card. You could change him maybe before, but also even how we finished with three, and grab and birch, I think both finished well the game. And I think we have good options, depending on the opposition, depending on the legs. I think Sam will start, and a lot of the times having these options are not there to we'll finish. Milose left back, around your right back, how will you impress them? Obviously, Milose had a part to play in that first goal, stepping in, winning the ball off the table. Yeah, as Milose has been, I think, he didn't have a easy match up with Fatau. A bat has been really aggressive, put in pressure, and I've liked his game. And Ronald, the thinking was about, precisely, because of Fatau. In Swinger, they put a lot of balls, second pose, they overloaded that side with late-divis pushing a lot. So those crosses, second pose, they think, Ronald could help us there in those situations, also set pieces for us, could be important. And some moments, we will need Jeremy Freeman, when we need to be more offensive, some moments, we will need Ronald, we will take the decision, according to the game plan. And Andoni, we've seen a little of Bradley Barclough, not enough to make it a full impression, but you've got to see him in a competitive game, rather than just in training. What did you make of him? I think he has got good minutes, no? I think he has had a very good pass. I think, in a counter, a couple of situations where he was going against the keeper, we haven't found him. We have to learn also, no? This kind of movement, because he will be there threatening him behind all the time. But I think he has been confident on the ball, like always, and he's good to have him already going. He hadn't played any really competitive minutes since the World Cup. So we had to be a little bit more careful, but I think he has been very good. It's Liverpool. Sorry, Kelly, come on. Liverpool fans have been super excited about hopefully seeing him on Wednesday night, we're here as a sub or maybe starting against Affleck and Madrid. You've obviously heard about amazing Liverpool Champions league nights. How much are you looking forward to that one on Wednesday? Definitely a big game, a big game first. Premier League, a Champions League game for me as a coach. I'm filled under the lights. I always love to play at night, and I think everyone is excited me the first. And nice to go into it with a victory in the Premier League. And, honey, thank you so much for coming to join us. Thank you. Congratulations on the win. Thank you. Thank you, and all done. Jamie, on the comments that he made about the performances, what he wants from that team, it's what he said to us beforehand and afterwards, he's getting closer to seeing what he wants from his team on the pitch. Are you seeing that as well? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I witnessed what a great coach he was at former for the amount of improvement he would make on individuals and his style of play. He's not the sort of manager that you're going to necessarily see playing clever patterns in his own box. He just doesn't see the risk. He would rather see the ball get forward as quickly as it can and get it to the players that can make a difference. He's not going to be that coach. And actually, I prefer that. The risk of reward is just, for me, at times, with coaches, coaches don't show themselves how good they are by how they play out from the back. The important thing is when you get it in the final third and you make things happen. And that's what he will want to improve. I thought you asked a great question about Alexander E sack about how do we get that next level? Because when you have his thoughts, if you think about that ball with side, and obviously, you have to prepare in two different sides. But he will probably look at these players. He will want Alexander E sack when he hasn't got the ball to press to work hard. He'll be taking those moments to 2-0, but he also wants when they haven't got the ball. He'll want the same from Alexander Verts. If you look to Alex Scott as an example in that midfield at Ballmouth and how hard he works to win the ball back. And that's what he will be demanding from his players. The difficulty will come with Champions League football, Premier League football each week. And how he can utilize that squad and not put in too much stress and demands on the players. But if he gets it right, he has a wonderful squad to work with here, Luke, doesn't he? Yeah, absolutely. And I think you mentioned it. He seems relaxed. He said he's got frimpong to come in. They can make different changes. But you look at their next six games. They're not going to be easy. The Champions League won, which he'll be looking forward to. Utilising his squad, getting minutes in legs again. I think you'll still be building towards that. And listen, if they continue that vein of form, the way they're playing, but it's how does he manage that squad. Does he have enough in depth? If you look at the substitutes bench tonight, there is some depth on there. But is that going to be enough to sustain on all fronts this season? And that was one of the question marks when he came in as the Liverpool manager, the Liverpool head coach, is that he was going to come into a situation where it was Champions League in midweek, Premier League at the weekend. And there was going to be this relentless schedule, not necessarily in terms of European football or any sort of change in style, but just the intensity of it, Jamie. And does it require something else? Well, you've got to start having a crystal ball and looking two, three games ahead. How people's, what they're, their minutes look like, how you manage and make sure they don't get injured and put too much demands and stress on them. But he probably hasn't had that experience yet, but all these players have. So they'll be out to understand the demands. They know what it takes and what you've got to do to make sure your body recovers. But I think it's nothing that he can't handle. He's an elite coach. You saw what he did at Bournemouth. He got that club into Europe. I never thought that would ever be possible. And now he's got a big chance here. And I thought he navigated a really difficult fixture today. Before the game, listening to me, I think it felt like you were playing Real Madrid by genuinely thought, this was hard tonight. And I think about how Manchester United struggled at how on the team coming up and the atmosphere and Luke and I were talking before the game. And also potentially with that Atlético Madrid game in midweek on everybody's mind, even if it's only subconscious, it's there in the future. Yeah, for all the brightness of their first two games, they hadn't won. So the longer that goes on for anyone, any new manager, regardless of the level, he would have been asked questions. And with that big game in the week, they want to go as far as they can in that. But what he has done tonight for his players, he said, look, we're going to go on the front foot. We're going to win the ball heart of the pitch. And for Liverpool over the last 12 months, especially, it's felt like there've been a little bit nervous when they've had to defend things. Whereas that high press front footed football allowed Jeremy Jackay, Virgil Van Dyke, Kirk case to be on the front foot, and they really dominated it, switching the defensive sense to know. There's no doubt, it'd be under no illusions. This is Liverpool. This isn't ball with where you can have a couple of bad results. He had a run of a 10 or 11 games last year and they didn't win. But I never lost faith in what he was doing because a lot of those games there were maybe losing 2-1 or drawing, but that's a different kind of pressure. You go on that run at Liverpool, the pressure is on you straight away. So he'll understand that. But I've got no doubts whatsoever. And I've seen it again tonight. He will be absolutely... I'd have no problem at Liverpool, so he's going to be really good. And it might not make the headlines, but you've both mentioned that clean sheet as well, which will be very pleasing to him. We heard how pleasing it was to Virgil Van Dyke a little bit earlier and he and Cody Gatpo were chatting to David Craig. Liverpool, then, 2-0 winners here at Portman Road. We will hear from Ipswich boss, Gary O'Neill, next. Jimmy Carrega. Busy. David Prutton. Busy. Gary Neville. Very busy. Mike Richards. Getting his haircut. Carsey is Kelly Kits. Oh, yeah. Oh, wait a minute. Now, Busy. So no one from Sky Sports can do this radio at? Yeah, but have you seen how many matches they've got this season? They're all just too busy. Fine. I'll do it myself. Sky Sports have got 1,500 live matches this season. Search Get Sky Sports to find out more. That's not bad, you know. It's a reckon I could get on the telly. Don't push it. Well, there goes that dream. Welcome back to the Sky Sports Premier League podcast. It's time to get more analysis of today's match and head back to the studio. Well, Ipswich started their Premier League campaign with a victory at home. They've been beaten this evening, though, 2-0 by Liverpool. Here's their boss, Gary O'Neill, as with David Craig. Gary obviously disappointed to lose a football game, but what's your assessment of that 90-plus minute? Yeah, I'm proud of the group before we were excellent. Before we were excellent. Two sort of mistakes in the first 10 minutes that make it very, very difficult, but then I think probably the best side for large parts after that more shots. Some real good chances and a test. You know when I spoke about the setbacks that many united and needing to be able to respond to them better, I thought we did that very, very well. So, yeah, I'm proud of the players. Of course, we don't take any points tonight, which is always difficult against Liverpool, and it's what we're here for, but a lot of good signs are for a really, really good performance. To go toe to toe with them the way we did. Very pleased. Obviously, the mistakes are being punished heavily by well-class players in the first 10 minutes, but then an excellent response. You know, we gave our best to fans, obviously, appreciate their performance, as you can see by the reaction to the players at the end. But we are here for points, so next week, we need to make sure we try and take some. You mentioned that response. When you find yourself two goals down in a relatively short space at time, just nine minutes, how crucial is it from your perspective that you don't see people crumble and they roll up their sleeves in that situation? Yeah, because I was confident the tactical threat we'd done was spot on. There was no issues out there for us tactically. Similar to Manchester United, but a Manchester United, we lost our way and we moved away from Gameplan, whereas today the lads were able to get straight back down, straight back down to business. Second half, especially, I thought we were excellent with a ball cut through them many, many times, arrived in the penalty area a lot. Didn't quite find that moment of quality to get us back in it. Of course, this is one of the most extreme tests, and we come up a little bit short in terms of points, but in terms of what I asked for the players, I thought they were very, very good, so we need to make sure that we dust ourselves down and get ready to go again. Two more games before international break will be well prepared for both to away games that test us, but we're in a good spot to see a team perform like that. It's just been put together. We're in a good spot. You mentioned just being put together. A lot of new faces, a lot of money spent. You've experienced coaching both home and abroad. How important is it people take time to build those relationships and form those trusts that will see this team move forward? No, I'm not too fast about time. We need to work quick. Of course, we're trying to get enough points to make sure that we have a successful season in the Premier League. I'm really comfortable with everything that we're doing. Obviously, there will always be some bits that we can tidy up. You don't always get punished as badly as we did today for errors in the Premier League. That was some top-level stuff where the ball ended up in our goal. But as I say, another group's in a good moment. Even the guys that come in, you can see the understanding. We had no real tactical difficulty. Excellent with a ball. But a few bits that we need to tidy up to just make sure that things go our way, not the oppositions. Gary, I appreciate it. Thank you very much. Cheers, mate. Good last of you. Look, he said that a couple of times in the interview that he felt that tactically there were no issues there that the players didn't crumble in the way that they did after conceding the second goal against Manchester United last weekend. Do you feel that they did get it right tonight and just maybe couldn't execute it in what were up against quality? Or do you think that there are... We need to talk about tidy and things up as well. Are there still things for them to work on? I think tidy and things up would be definitely the line. I would choose. I think they made their own mistakes to give Liverpool two goals tonight, especially only on the game. Listen, he's going to build his team up. Absolutely, they responded well. Didn't they, from growing 2-0 down, they tried to create chances, got crosses in the box and bodies forward. But it felt a little bit like the damage was done with the way they gave them almost 2-0. Go ahead, start. But for me, it's just here. Yes, five minutes in, it's rolling into a central midfield. That really either has to be spun in behind over the top for Fattaro to really test Liverpool, where they've been a little bit nervous. They don't, they play it into feet and they make that mistake. But it's the second fold for me, the reactions. Palacio says sells himself too easy and then leaf Davis has obviously tried to be a bit more too expansive, especially if you look at the left side. But if you spin that there in between Van Dyke and Kirk, as you've got a race on, you can get up the pitch, but now it's the reaction for me for leaf Davis at left back to get inside the game to help out Jacob Greaves. And then maybe Cody Gapco doesn't take that pass on. He maybe drives and gets a shot at us. So it's just noticing the danger and being a bit more reserved as you move into the openings of the game. And even for the second goal now, you look at Virgil Van Dyke with all the time in the world on the ball. They're not in a position to defend over the top. If that ball's flipped in behind now, you're looking at Dyke. How's he going to get that? He's actually manages to reassess and they don't really get together. And for Tawu ends up at right back and he's not really playing on the line of the back four. And again, Sherpens in a wrong position as well. He's a little bit too high. Doesn't really react. And then you see for Tawu's too deep. Plays Ezek on side, but Sherpens doesn't adjust his position. He almost tries to think about coming out, which allows as we spoke to Alexander after the game, he was able to just drift it into the near post. And you see for Tawu there, just mentioning to his manager and they're trying to figure out and he's trying to say, you still have to react. You still got to go and press the team and do a job if you're filling in for your teammates. So that's where they have to win. Why is that happening? Do you think? Is it players not being fully focused right from the get-go? Because they have started games quickly, Ipswich. Or is it more a case of the trying too hard to go the other way? I think it's the infusion. I mean, isn't it? Obviously, Gary only wants his team to start bright on the front foot. Play forward early, go and press. But when you have top-top players and you give them a little bit of extra time, whether that's half a second, they can cause you damage. And if you're not prepared to defend in the right areas or even give them that respect of dropping off a little bit. So they'll be picking the bones out of it here, him and his staff here. They're pleased with some of the aspects they saw, but he'll know what they need to do. That's easy for me to unravel there, Jamie. I couldn't agree more. What you've analysed there, I think there are times in a game where you've just got to understand the enormity of it and not take too many risks. And I know you will always want to play. You want to see people playing. But like you mentioned there, I always feel in the first 10 minutes of a game if it comes in just flip it down the side. Ask Kirk has to run back towards his own goal. Ask him the question. Have you played fallback midfield? You know what it's like as a centre about the last thing you want to do is to chase back towards your own goal. But these are the details at this level. When you play against that extra bit of quality and the championship, you don't get punished. The Premier League, you absolutely get punished. But for me, the next two away games in the league, you've got Palace, you've got Everton. They're all with the games and we're not disrespecting Palace or Everton. But they're with the games forips, which they have to look at. They're the chances for them to go and take points in the division we mentioned before the game. You've got to improve your home form. I don't think it's going to be judged against Liverpool. You can go in it with the aspiration and the hope. But you look at those games there and even when Fullham coming October at home, there are three games that are certainly ones that will be looking at to try and take as many points as they can. Do you think that what we often look at for teams that have been newly promoted is whether they're learning as the season goes on and whether they're adapting to life in a new league? Do you think it's slightly different with Ipswich? Because they've had such a turnover of players at the club. But do you think they are adapting quickly to life in the Premier League? Listen, you can always go a goal down. You can't get, you can see another punch and you go two rolls down. But it's the fact that they didn't go and add the third one. They didn't give up. They continued to play forward, try and cause Liverpool problems to get back in the game. But by the end of it, the second half, it was a much of a much. It took three points out of these three games, though. Absolutely. I think that absolutely two tough games, Liverpool, Manchester United. And Jamie, the final word on Liverpool, we were very quick to judge after two games this season. We're going to be quick to judge after this third game of the season. The transfer windows have taken quite a bit of criticism. Do you think it's starting to look with maybe a couple of emissions, like a more balanced squad than perhaps people thought? No disrespect. It was a tricky game, but it was a lot harder games to come. I'm still really optimistic about what Liverpool have done in the window. They've got Barcola in. And they've got to build slowly. There's no point wasting money right now. So I thought I might manage your given time. Everyone has to be a little bit patient. We're so quick to judge. We have three games in now. Yeah, and the owners have put the money up for Liverpool. The moment is Amit Batti is birthday. Birthday, birthday, yeah. So celebrations all round Liverpool.
