CONCACAF's Tactical Reckoning: Pepi's Injury, Madrid Derby Dynamics, and USMNT Dilemmas

What up, what up everyone? Football America. We are back on this fine Monday. I'm Alexis Eunice, hanging out with a pair of USman's national team. Greats in Hercules Gomez and Casey Keller, lots to get to today because a pair of conquercaf stars absolutely shone brightly in the Madrid Derby one that's going to make Herk very, very happy to talk about. Plus, from Conquercaf to Conmebol, one very, very special Grafinha. Probably the best number nine. That's not a number nine. We're going to talk about him later on indeed. But speaking of number nine, that's where we're going to start today. But as it relates to the USman's national team, because worrying scenes on the eve of the international break as Ricardo Peppy had to be subbed off in PSV's game on Sunday after just eight minutes on the pitch it's believed to be a muscle injury for the American. And now it's confirmed that he will indeed be missing this international break. And it seems Mauricio Pochettino has already replaced him with Damian Downs in the squad. Now, I say this is concerning scenes because we know that Ricardo Peppy does have a history with certain injuries and it's such a shame to come at this time considering he has been in quite fine form scoring a lot of goals and we've been talking about how this could have been a big international window for him. So let's start there. Hurt, this is your area of the pitch. And as I said, we know that the USman's national team in this international window, they do have options just on a whole. But personally, how big of a setback is this, especially with a Balagun situation still uncertain? Well, this is why it's a setback. And not for the USman's national team, but for Ricardo Peppy. Finally, Ricardo Peppy had the chance at PSV to be the man. And we were putting goal quotas on Ricardo Peppy's season. And one of the asterisks that I would always put there is if healthy Ricardo Peppy's going to score double-digit goals plus 20 in the area of divisive, if healthy. Well, here he is, not healthy. And the one column, the one international fixture, the window that you have where Father and Balagun, who was one of the best players at the World Cup for the USman's national team, won't be available. And the guys who are behind you, because they would be behind you in that depth chart position, aren't known commodities. It would have been your position to lose. And here you are, and you can't defend that position. You're in pole position, and you can't get out of the gates. You're not in the race. So now Julian Hall, Justin Ellis, and Damian Downs, they'll be the guys. So you're thinking yourself, what should be Ricardo Peppy's to lose is now lost. He's not in this running. So it doesn't mean Ricardo Peppy is out of contention for a future column. It just means the one opportunity with Father and Balagun, not braving down his neck, he had to take advantage of, and he couldn't even be there to compete. Casey, we talked about this on ESPNS yesterday, and you're just absolutely gutted for him more on a personal level. Yeah, for sure. I mean, you do. You wait for those opportunities. There's a point where you have to push to get the opportunity, but the guy in front of you also has to slip up to give you the chance to get in. Now, you mentioned it. Balagun was one of our best players during the World Cup. He took his form from league into the World Cup. So Peppy was always kind of not able to make up the distance, and at the same point that you made, he never really established himself as the true starter for a club level. So now you're in a situation where you're given the reins at the club level because of whatever the Balagun situation is, whatever that is, you are going to get the opportunity in this four matches. Now, what that looked like, that's up to Mauricio Porcettino, but when your options are kids, and a guy that's not playing a whole lot as well, and Haji, right, injured, Haji Mon injured, it was like, boom, here you go. Go, go, prove yourself. And unfortunately, he comes up with that muscle injury, and now not only does it question, does somebody else at club level slide in? But it also, you miss an opportunity where you don't know when that next opportunity is going to be with the national team. It seemed like for so long, we finally had the answer of who is the main man at the number nine spot for the USman's national team. And here we are just what two months after the World Cup, and we're going to have to ask again. But it's also different. It wasn't just who was the main man, but then who also gave you a different component if you needed to change something off the bench, and then now with both of them out, and the option is kids. I don't think is a bad thing for Ricardo Pepe in the long run, he's not out of the picture. Yeah, yeah, we're all in Balagun, he's not out of the picture, they'll have their place in the USman's national team. But Casey, you know how this business is, you open that door for somebody else. Always. I may take it. Always. It's a dangerous possibility. Yeah, well, as I said, for the USman's national team and Mauricio Pochettino, there still are options in terms of strikers. And as Casey said, with Nohaji Wright, no Pepe, no Balagun, no Ajuman, who should start at the number nine position? Or does Mauricio Pochettino kind of adjust his system? I don't even know what the system is. I say respectfully, a good coach will see what the players he has at his disposal and say this is what the system should be, because I have these players with these characteristics, and I'm sure Mauricio Pochettino will do some version of that. Until we know what that version looks like when he has him in camp and he sees what he can do, we won't know what profile of striker he'll use. Julian Hall wasn't always a nine. He's a converted winger who Michael Bradley's made into a very useful nine. Kind of like the Red Bulls of Old did with Josie Altador before Josie Altador was a big friend. Justin Ellis is a guy that I see as more a facilitator. He's not your nine profile. He's like a second striker, if you will, almost a nine and a half who's very good in gliding with the ball in dribbling. Kind of like a car how he glides through players, not flashy with step overs, but taking from point A to being facilitating. And Damien Downs, I don't know really what Damien Downs is. We saw a little bit of him in the gold cup before the World Cup. Didn't see a whole lot of him at Southampton. We'll see what he looks like in St. Louis, but he's the oldest one of the bunch. And he's probably the one that we maybe know least about. So Marisa Portroutino is going to have to see what he has at his disposal and see what profile fits the players going to try playing with. If you ask me at this moment, it may look like Julian Hall has pulled position, especially because he's one of the few dual nats here. And all of a sudden, Marisa Portroutino has taken an interest with dual nationals. Maybe it's two birds with one stone. I feel like we're back to square one and asking this question. Now, Casey, we saw the options there. What say you? Who starts? No idea. No idea. I mean, I don't know. And I suppose this is it. No, I think really, really what's going to happen is I think Portroutino doesn't know these players either. Yeah. Right. And so what's going to happen is he's going to bring them into the squad. He's going to see what it kind of looks like. But you also have four matches. Yeah. So they're going to play. It just kind of depends on what those numbers look like. It's one thing to watch them from afar. It's another thing to bring these kids in and get to know them. That week will be key for all three of them to see who he feels most comfortable, kind of assimilate the quickest in training, but training is training. Yeah. And there really isn't, I guess you've got to bleed these guys in at some time. But, you know, obviously not ideal to come into this camp with such unknowns upfront. Yeah, it definitely is. It's an interesting window, as we said. And obviously, Mauricio Portroutino is definitely going to be experimenting here and there. There are still two big matches, at least for bragging rights in terms of the ones against Mexico, as well as Canada. So who has the most to gain from this window, you think? Are these players? I think they all do. I don't think you make a case that one has more to gain than the others. You don't have to like, who would I like to see? The unusual suspects. Julian Hall. Julian Hall. If you ask me who I think has a possibility of stepping in with a different profile in the nine position for the U.S. men's national team at some point in time, out of these three, it would be Julian Hall. Justin Ellis, I think, is a very interesting forward, but I don't think he's a nine. I think he's somebody you put up with another player. He's more of a facilitator, if you will. You can play one of those double-ten roles that we've seen. Mauricio Portroutino utilizes in the past. I don't see him as that profile is a nine. And Damian Dowlands, where has he been? And I asked this respectfully. Where has he been the last six, eight months here? To merit this opportunity? Well, he merits the opportunity simply because of lack of somebody else. Yeah. And so talk about being... But even then, Mauricio Portroutino has said what you do at the club level will give you opportunities and national teams. Yeah, but you still got to have players so hurt. I mean, if you don't have anybody, you don't have anybody, and you have to sometimes just hold your hand up and go, that's the reason why he wasn't in this squad to begin with. So you talk about opportunity. Yeah. That's a massive opportunity. You weren't in the squad. You've got this list of players who were injured and your competition as kids. So I think Damian Dowlands has a big opportunity to kind of reestablish himself national team, which then that confidence might go on to club where he can get more than 23 minutes. I was going to try to get into a little goalkeeping chat there, but we're going to save that for another day, though, Casey, because I know that situation is still a bit uncertain, but we do have to talk about someone who's not going to be here for this international break. That's the question, but if you're going to ask what have you done for me lately, he reminded everyone why he is such a respected player. And this is it. A goal. Finally, his first goal of 2026 for AC Milan as they win against Leche. So, Herc, you like this one? I'm wondering how the acceleration is there with the movement. The touch is just filthy. I know we got to ask about Christian Policic being left off, but there's something you've got to admire about this goal. And about the situation in general where he's been begging to play in the last two outings, he's got an assist, and now he has a goal. On a team that he's, for the most part, used to score and put in numbers with. I would argue the second half of the last season was the exception to the rule. This is who Christian Polic has been with Leche. 100%. And we talked about the other day. I have no problem with a player going, I'm fit, I'm ready, I'm ready to play. Well, when the opportunity comes, and a lot of times the best part about a field player, is that opportunity can come with 20 minutes left in the game to make a difference. Goalkeeper, it's tough. But as a field player, I've always felt, if you're not a starter, prove it when you get the opportunity to come off the bench. After you've already proven it every day in training that you're pushing for those positions, show the coaches, show the fans, show ownership, you're back, you're ready from the pitch. Not just, hey, okay, we're going to give you your chance. No, show me, you deserve a chance. And he's done that. And that I always have respect for. I'm interested to hear you say that because Herk, of course, last week on Football America, because when we're speaking with our Shaka, as well as Jeff Carlyle about Christian Policik being omitted from this international window, we were wondering if it had to do with fitness, if we were trying to read in between certain lines of Mauricio Pachotino's comments, what it was, but if he's fit enough to do that, to produce goals like that now, was it right to leave him out? I think this is normal. It happens anytime with the manager where you leave a player out, because he's coming back to full fitness. Western McKinney played. He's coming back to full fitness. Alejandro Sandejas played. He's coming back to full fitness. Christian Policik's same thing. These are players who were part of the World Cup squad who are coming back to full fitness. This is what happens. The problem is, I understand this. I believe Casey understands this. I believe Mauricio Pachotino understands this. I don't think a majority of fans understand this. And they think it's Pachotino sending a message. They think it's Pachotino leaving them out for him to know that commitment should be something different. I don't think that's the case. Very much entitled to your own opinion here. But this is, he's not up to speed, fitness-wise. The interesting thing here is, Mauricio Pachotino could put this fire away very easily when asked about it, and he chooses not to. Now he's been very straightforward and a lot of his press conferences in the past about not talking about players who aren't there. So this is one of those players who aren't there. I won't speak on it, but in not speaking on it, you fuel these fires and these conspiracy theories of Policik's being punished. He's being admitted because he gave up on his team. He's being admitted because he didn't want to play the goal cup, because he's not committed, which I think is, couldn't be further from the truth in BS. The guys coming back from fitness, from a fractured leg that he endured in the World Cup. And you can question his commitment, you can question how soft he is, or is not whatever you may want. But he's not here because he's coming back to full fitness, not because Mauricio Pachotino is trying to punish him in some sort of way. Look, I understand both sides, where manager comes out, says, hey, you've been out a while, you've just finally worked your way back into the first team. Why don't you just stay there and continue that fitness? I want to look at some other guys. But I also understand your back to full fitness, you're back playing, hey, why don't you come in? I want you in the squad. I want you part of this team. I want you to contribute to a level. Look, I'm not going to play you 90 minutes in four games. But I want you in this squad. I want a young... Kevin Sullivan to go against Christian Puelsock in training. I want to see what that looks like. I want to see Gozo. I want to see these kids, these strikers. I want to see those kids have to go up against a defensive midfielder. I want to see them west of McKinney. I want to see that. But I also want to see them know that when they've got the opportunity to come into the national team, that it's the national team, that it's not a mixed squad of national team. And that kind of frustrates me a little bit with this squad. I love seeing kids get their chance, who deserve their chance. Right. But I love seeing them then have to match up against the squad. Not a mixed squad of young kids and some of the national team squad. Well, we know that, of course, AC Milan now seems to have found some form. They definitely do need it as well as Rubin Amorim. He's spoken about the pressure that he has felt there and how he can't make the same mistakes as he did at Manchester United. We all know those. How much of a difference maker for Amorim? Can Christian Policik be now if he continues this form and scores goals like that? Same difference maker. He's been for AC Milan the last three years. I'll go back to the second half of last year. That's the exception to the rule for Christian Policik with AC Milan. Everything else, he's been stellar. He's been the face of the team and one of the most productive players in Saria. It's not my opinion. Those are simple numbers. Yeah. That's not an opinion. That's a stat. That's a stat. So he'll be as influential as ever for Rubin Amorim. If he keeps doing what he's been doing before with this team. It's been a long time since he's been doing that. That's the problem. It was the turn. It was the Christmas break. And he really had a really poor second half of the season. We saw him break out of that funk for the national team and the friendlies before the World Cup. We saw what he was capable in that first half against Paraguay and the World Cup before the injury. So we know the capabilities there. But the problem with any capability, and you mentioned this about Ricardo Pepe, you have to be fit on the pitch to be able to do it. And now you have a new manager. You're injured for more or less all a preseason. And then the manager is saying, okay, you're not just throwing you back in. Prove it. Well, he started that. Now the key to starting that is stay fit and continue to produce. Simple as that. Yeah. Just have a look at all of the headlines over in Italy. They all have to do with Christian Policic. How's everyone's Italian? What's up, Ben? Multiple. Go ahead. Read that one. Retro-policy-goal. Poshiebeiro Milan. What is it called? Retro-policy-goal. Poshiebeiro Milan. What is it called? Retro-policy-goal. What is it called? Retro-policy-goal. Poshiebeiro Milan. And that means? The Christian Policic-goal. Valana Cruzin. Oh. All right. Just being serious for a second. Christian Policic at Milan is one of the standards. Yeah. Last season, the second half of the season, it wasn't just Christian Policic who was suffering. Yes. You look at Milan. Raffa Lau was suffering. Under Maxi Allegri, this team was abysmal. They went through a stretch where the formation didn't suit Christian Policic. Or Raffa Lau who were playing as double-nines at times together. They couldn't look at each other on the field. Not because they didn't like each other because stylistically. They were all over the place. They couldn't link up. This is a team that you'd be hard pressed to really find bright spots on the field. Where did they finish last year? Yeah. Like they're not in Europe this year. Yeah, you don't expect that from Milan. And so, to Herk's point, I mean, it's very clear. Anytime individual success is so much easier when your team is having success. Yeah. And vice versa. When you are struggling so often, it is the same time that your team is struggling. And when you have those moments, yeah, you take it away. Yeah. It was an anomaly. Now, let's see him get back to the form we expect from him. All right. Well, somebody else who you won't be seeing for the USman's national team in this international break or pretty much any international break is Noah Kai Banks because the German football federation has announced that Banks has officially chosen to play for Germany pretty much just ending any speculation for the US youth player, Big Miss. Well, that's going to be at the end of maybe five years from now to the end of now. We'll always say, hey, this was a big miss. At this moment, it's just somebody you couldn't lock down. Could they have done anything more? No, listen, Noah Kai Banks is entitled to represent who he wants to represent. Those are his options. And he feels American in a sense. He feels German in a sense. And he's represented the United States at the youth national team level. And he was holding out for the German national team. The German national team with it comes a certain cachet. And Jürgen Klopp recruiting you. That's a heavy sell for any player in the world. He didn't see his future with the USman's national team. And there's no harm in that. I actually give Marisa Pochettino and the US soccer federation credit here. Marisa Pochettino went from pretty much an unparaphraising saying, we're not going to chase dual nationals. They need to have that passion, that love, that hunger to represent the jersey too. Singing a different tune because I think the federation asked them to. Acknowledging that they don't have the luxury of maybe turning dual nationals away. And it's much more complex than just putting on a jersey. And he goes out and he speaks to Noah Kai Banks. He speaks to dual nationals and you can only go so far. They went as far as they felt they could take it. And they allowed the player to make the decision. You're going to win some, you're going to lose some. But you have to be there for the fight of trying to bring them in. And that they did. He left. There's no harm in that. I agree with Pochettino and the point that you don't go and try to woo somebody. Do you talk to him? 100%. Do you say, hey, look, where do you stand? Where's your passion at? Who do you feel you are? And if somebody says, I don't know, well, then they gave you the answer. If they say, look, yes, I'd love to play for America. But, okay, answer done. No problem. But you don't ignore him. Of course, you have to go talk to him. You have to have these conversations to see where they are. But in the end, national team is pride. National team is pride. National team is you have to want to bleed for your country. And if you don't know, thanks for coming. But it's all good. But you still got to find out where they sit. And as for Germany, from that perspective now, what's the trajectory you see? Because we know that that pool is a- I mean, could- He's got crazy, intangible size. He's a young player, teenager, who was playing. I'll be at that level, Osberg. I don't know. Germany has a luxury of having a depth chart of 10 players in each position. They did. Oh, well, yeah. But- But- Much more so than other countries. Correct. So, their 10 would still be many- Maybe not- But maybe not to the level that Germany of all. Of course, of course. So, that's where I think it's a huge opportunity. What you said- When you said opportunity missed, Nathaniel Brown, for me, was an opportunity missed. And maybe he doesn't sting as much because you have Anthony Robinson. But that's the starting left-back for the German national team. He got a big move to Bayern Munich. That's- That's a player you're thinking, like, that was a miss, right? What else could you have done there? Mm-hmm. Banks, we're going to wait and see. At the moment, maybe he makes the German national team, maybe he doesn't. But his decision has been made. Yeah, I mean, would it be great if he chose the U.S.? I think so, yes. But only if he chose the U.S. for the right reasons. Not because, well, I don't think I'm going to play for Germany. So, I might as well play for the U.S. I mean, no. What's your passion? Are you American? Are you German? He said, I'm more German. Okay. Awesome. Good luck to you, son. All right. We'll leave that one at that. But in the meantime, guys, you know what time it is. The referee goes to the monitor because he had originally thought Joe Bellingham was at fault as he went in pretty fast. But in the end, he says, uh-uh, Christian Romero. I don't have as big a problem with this tackle. It's just two guys going in for a hard tackle. And I don't think Bellingham should have got a yellow card. But I don't think Romero should have got a red card. 45th minute. This one's a little different. Oh, yeah. I mean, that's, that's, that's, that's out. Yeah. It just fully just stomps all over the ankle, heel of all the way up. Oh, yeah. And the very fortunate to be on the field. And we keep playing. Yeah. Lee Kang-in definitely thanking his lucky stars. He was still on the field. But in the spirit of cards, eventually we would get a sending off in the 49th minute Dean House in here bringing down Juliano Simeone in the box. He first is given a yellow card, but the referee checks the monitor and is upgraded to a red. Look, I, I get why it's a red. I still don't like the double jeopardy thing where, where, yes, I know he didn't play, but it brought him down. And yes, I get the rule of the law is, is red, but you have two tough challenges. You know the keepers in No Man's Land. Yeah. And then? Well, eventually a goal would come for Real Madrid off a free kick. And Tony O'Rudica manages to head it in. And they pull them back. Getting the better of their cross-town rivals. Real Madrid at the Metropolitano. But Jonathan David definitely making headlines there for this one. As you can see, first pair to score in his first three appearances. In La Liga for Atlético de Madrid. In the 21st century, first conca-caf international to score in La Liga's edition of El Derri. Since Hugo Sanchez back in 1988 for Real Madrid, I wasn't even born. Neither was Jonathan David and four goal contributions. This season for the Canadian. Kind of just proving everything you've said about him, right? Listen, we talk about exceptions to the rule. I would argue Jonathan David, a Juventus, was the exception to his career. Everywhere he goes, he scores goals. He was in Belgium and Gengk. As an 18-year-old, scored a bunch of goals, secured a move to Leo. He became Leo's all-time leading goal scorer. The year that he left Leo, that last season, he was scoring championsly goals against the likes of Althalegio Madrid, Ramadred, Juventus Liverpool, anybody and everybody. And gets his big move to Cedia and Juventus. By the way, everybody suffered. Block of it suffered as well. All the strikers suffered. And they're still suffering today. They're still suffering. Get some move to a team that I think suits him because of the play that's very much kind of like where he plays his national team football for Jesse Marsh in Atlético. Same principles in terms of how they press, how they work, how they defend, and the chances they take. Nothing new to him. Jonathan David is the best nine in Conquercaf and has been the best nine in Conquercaf for quite some time. And now he's doing it in one of the top setups in the world. And they top two league in the world. Casey knows what LaLiga is like. You don't just step in to a team like this and do what he's doing. Three straight games. Julián Albares right now is getting booed as there's a standing ovation for Jonathan David as he comes out. The opportunity to cement that and make that yours as difficult as that may be right now. It's Jonathan David's position to lose. He has everything going for himself right now. I feel he's the premiere nine in this region. And maybe following Balagun will have a say. Let's have a listen. When you look at someone like Lamin Yamal and how he's been able to handle it, what do you think of him as a player? What impresses you the most? Well, I think he's talent and his performance. I think he's quality. The maturity that he shows in the pitch. But I think when you are so young, you don't think too much. You just play football. But yeah, I think at his age, he won already so much. And he always tried to make the difference, probably because of his talent. But because he's playing with so much passion too. Well, a very good player right now, of course, is Rafinha. We're seeing him in very good form right now for Barcelona. Do you think this is the best of Rafinha? I don't know. I think Rafinha is a very good player. And I think with Barcelona and with the national team, he can do more and learn more and, you know, enjoy more. So for me, Rafinha is a very good player. But for us, like a player, we have to learn every day. So never stop. Well, Rafinha has already made some season that is being very good. And this season started very well. And surely, I think he has everything to be a ball of gold. From this season, I think it's not going to be between the 30s. And it's difficult for Rafinha, but well, it's being a good season. And surely it's going to be a lot of goals, right? As a player who has a very good admiration, who has a very good quality, who shoots very well, who does a lot of goals, is doing a very good job in Barcelona. And you obviously admire Rodri. What do you think makes him a good fit for Barcelona? And what does he need to probably be one of the best there? Yeah, I think it's a great sign for the team, because Rodri, if he was doing really, really well in the last five, six years in Manchester City, in the national team, but the style of play Barcelona for him is perfect, no? So I think he will be very, very successful in the team. Ultimately, in Spanish, of course, talking about Barcelona now that they have spent a few years with a lot of success, but they say that unfortunately they don't have that official talent. Do you think you really need it or not? For example, with Rafinha. Well, now that I see it, I really think that Barcelona has made a lot of good contracts and has managed to get a great goal, but well, also the season is very long, they have many competitions, they have made a feature like Gabriel Jesus, that will surely bring him a lot of things. All right, a couple of legends there. I do have to say, though, as much as I was bringing up Rafinha with Marcelo, he did say, I will always choose a Real Madrid player. He's like, for me, if we're talking ballon, they are giving me Vinny, give me Jude Bellagom and then Rafinha. Of course, he's Madrid Leno, through and through, but thoughts of guys of what they had to say. Happy Barcelona, X Barcelona. Yeah, well, yeah, I could see... How could you not be right now? Listen, in terms of Machirano, talking about Roderick and how important he is, it's interesting to see him talk about a player who played his position, but could be nowhere close to the way he played. Yeah. Two very different positions. Well, same position, two very different profiles of how they played. One was hard-nosed, one was covering ground, one was very... What was the destroyer? Yeah. And the other one is very much Maestro, anticipation, much more in the vein of a Sergio Busquets, but to see the appreciation he has for a player like Roderick makes you just realize how good Roderick has been throughout these years. Yeah, but to me, it was like back in the day, when you had a six and an eight, the two of them, I think, would have played so well together, because they could have shifted, right? The one piece that I kind of left out, that was actually fighting for my life. Another coach is new, none of my teammates knew, and I didn't know how much longer I could go. You don't want that to be the end. This isn't just your career ending. This is potentially your life ending. Right, the great has saved a documentary that features our one and only Casey Keller is live now streaming live now over on the ESPN app. If you haven't watched it yet, definitely watch it. Casey, just tell us a quick synopsis of what we can expect from it because it was definitely a very challenging time in your life. Yeah, yeah, to say the least. But it's not a long documentary. It's only about a little over 30 minutes, but it basically kind of starts at the starting point, kind of in Washington choosing to be this player to go to Europe and being one of the first players to establish myself at Millwall, having the opportunity to come home to the Seattle Sounders to finish my career thinking that what could go better? You know, 19 years, 17 in Europe, back home, the Sounders flying, and then as I was in the process of signing a year's extension, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, didn't know if I was going to be able to play that final year, didn't know if I was going to be able to finish that final year, was able to go several years, eight years, in fact, after the diagnosis before I had to start treatment, and then basically the treatment just did not take, and it was treatment after treatment after treatment, and then finally, on my 13th different cancer treatment, it was the one that saved me, and that's kind of where the documentary finishes with the treatment, and then the relationship I have now with Bristol-Mire Squibb to talk about Carti-South therapy and the drug Brianzi that got me to this point. You mentioned in the quick little preview that we saw that nobody knew, not your teammates. Yeah, I didn't, look, my parents didn't know. My kids didn't know. You didn't want to tell them. Why didn't you, if memory shows me correct, you weren't, I'm gonna say, I'll start that year. I was best 11, I'll start over, yeah. And nobody knew you were, nobody knew. One of the reasons was I didn't know when I had to have treatment, so it would have, okay, are you okay? What I didn't want to do is play my 20th season as a pro, and have everything be asterisked. Well, you know, you got diagnosed with cancer, right? No, I wanted to go out on my terms, and play with people thinking, that's Casey Keller, not that's Casey Keller who has cancer. And so, and then the hard part was, is then is it kind of continued, and I went year after year, I also, my parents, my kids, were able to go eight years without worrying about their dad, worrying about their, yeah, I was diagnosed in 2010, I didn't have treatment until 2018. Because I was diagnosed, so basically what happened was, I had a hit problem, and at the end of my second season, before I resigned, and I didn't want to resign a contract and spend that 20th season as a pro on the treatment table. So, I went in for an MRI. I said to the club, let me get an MRI first. And, you know, I talked to the club doc, club doc says, your hip looks fine, you know, looks like a, I was almost at my 41st birthday, it's at almost a 41 year old, who had 700 plus games under his belt, you know, but we saw something else, and we need you to come into the hospital to get a biopsy, and that was when it was confirmed. In case, for anybody who watches his documentary, that maybe isn't a soccer fan, what's the one thing you want them to take away from this documentary? Well, and you don't have to be a soccer fan to watch this documentary, it doesn't. There's some fun stuff that you'll see with the craziness with Mill Wall and all this kind of stuff. But really, what it comes down to is, there's always something on the horizon. There's always something happening, and give yourself the opportunity, be the advocate for yourself. Talk to your doctors, question your doctors. If you're not happy with what you're hearing, find a different doctor. Talk to a different doctor. They might be telling you the truth, they might not, or not the truth, that's not fair. But just continue to be your own biggest advocate, and the fact that we all know somebody that's going through this, has gone through this, a friend, a family, a somebody, keep asking questions, and keep seeing what else is available. Yeah, well, we're definitely happy that you did make that greatest save. Thank you. Well, I didn't make it. Well, it was teamwork. I helped you. It was teamwork indeed. You kept fighting.
