Les Nénés — First World Cup in History

Suriname have never played in a FIFA World Cup. Their CONCACAF 4th-place finish in qualification landed them in IC Playoff 2 — just two wins away from writing football history. Beat Iraq and Bolivia, and Les Nénés will stand on the biggest stage the sport has to offer. A tiny nation of 600,000 people dreaming of Group I.

🌍

A South American Nation in CONCACAF

Suriname is geographically in South America — but historically part of CONCACAF due to colonial ties to the Netherlands and Caribbean footballing culture. This means Les Nénés compete in CONCACAF qualifying, not CONMEBOL. A unique footballing identity that defies geography.

🇩🇪

Daniëllo Doekhi — The Bundesliga Anchor

Union Berlin centre-back Daniëllo Doekhi is Suriname's most recognizable player at the highest European level. His pedigree in the Bundesliga gives Suriname a genuine quality core. Doekhi chose Suriname over the Netherlands, a decision that could define a nation's football history.

🏆

IC Playoff 2 — Two Wins from History

Suriname face Iraq (AFC) and Bolivia (CONMEBOL) in the IC Playoff 2 mini-tournament. Win both and they're in Group I against France, Senegal and Haaland's Norway. No Surinamese side has ever done this — but no Surinamese side has ever been this close.

👥

The Dutch-Caribbean Diaspora

Suriname's squad is built heavily on the Dutch-Caribbean diaspora — players born or raised in the Netherlands with Surinamese roots. This pipeline through Dutch youth football (Ajax, Feyenoord academies) gives Les Nénés technical quality far above their FIFA ranking would suggest.

🇫🇷

Group I Mountain — France, Norway, Senegal

If Suriname win IC Playoff 2, they draw into Group I: defending runners-up France (Mbappé), Erling Haaland's Norway, and AFCON champions Senegal. The entire world would be watching a nation of 600,000 take on football royalty. Football's greatest underdog story would be rewritten.

⭐

CONCACAF 4th — The Journey Here

Suriname's CONCACAF 4th-place qualifying finish was historic in itself — beating Cuba, Guyana, and Belize en route to the final round. For a nation historically known in cricket and athletics, not football, this qualification run has galvanized an entire country. The IC Playoff is the prize.
