Golden Boot Storylines

🇫🇷

Can Mbappé Defend His Title?

Mbappé won the Golden Boot in Qatar 2022 with 8 goals — the joint-highest ever for a non-champion. Now at Real Madrid, he enters WC2026 as the world's most complete forward. France in Group I means games against Senegal, Norway and an IC Playoff team — a favourable route.

🇳🇴

Haaland's First World Cup

Erling Haaland has never played a senior World Cup. WC2026 is his first chance — and Norway qualify for the first time since 1998. If Norway progress deep into the tournament, Haaland will go on a tear. He averages 50+ goals per season at City. At a World Cup? Could be historic.

🇧🇷

Brazil's Redemption via Vinicius

Brazil haven't won since 2002. Vinicius Jr. carries the Seleção's golden boot hopes at 25 — the perfect age for a tournament breakout. His pace and dribbling are unplayable on a good day. Group C opponents Morocco, Scotland and Haiti offer paths to deep progression.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Kane — The Bundesliga Monster

Harry Kane set Bundesliga records for most goals in a season at Bayern Munich. He's in the prime of his career at 32 — experienced, clinical, relentless. England in Group L (Croatia, Ghana, Panama) is a gentle opener. Kane could be on 4-5 goals before the knockouts even start.

🇪🇸

Yamal — Youngest Ever Contender?

Lamine Yamal would be just 18 at WC2026 — but he already starred at Euro 2024. Spain's Group H route is tough (Uruguay, Ivory Coast) but Yamal is the kind of generational talent who eats World Cups for breakfast. Dark horse for a surprise Golden Boot if Spain go deep.

🇦🇷

Messi — One Final Chapter?

Lionel Messi lifts the World Cup trophy in WC2026's host country. At 38, his role might evolve — playmaker and facilitator more than scorer. But Messi at a World Cup is unpredictable. In 2014 he had 4 goals and 1 assist in 7 games. Never count him out.
