PL Player of the Season 2025-26
Which Premier League star wins the 2025-26 Player of the Season award? We break down the top nominees — Salah, Palmer, Haaland and more — analyse their seasons and predict the winner.
The Three End-of-Season Awards
The Premier League season culminates in a trio of player-of-the-year honours voted for by different groups: the official Premier League Player of the Season, the PFA Players' Player and the FWA Footballer of the Year. All three can go to different men — or the same player can sweep all three for an outstanding campaign.
PL Player of the Season
Voted for by fans and a panel of football experts. The official Premier League honour, presented at the season's end. Has been won by Salah, Haaland and De Bruyne in recent years.
PFA Players' Player
Voted for exclusively by fellow professional footballers — widely regarded as the most prestigious of the three. If a player wins this, his peers believe he was the best. Carries unique respect within the game.
FWA Footballer of Year
Voted for by members of the Football Writers' Association — journalists who cover the game daily. Established in 1948, it is the oldest such award in English football and assesses contribution, character and consistency.
Top Nominees for 2025-26
Mohamed Salah — Liverpool
Right Winger / ForwardThe Egyptian King continues to defy age and logic. Season after season he produces elite numbers — goals, assists and moments of pure brilliance. In 2025-26 he has once again been one of the most consistent performers in the entire division, combining a world-class goal contribution with creative output that few wingers at any level can match.
Cole Palmer — Chelsea
Attacking MidfielderPalmer is the most exciting young player in the Premier League. His debut 2023-24 campaign was jaw-dropping and he has continued to develop rapidly. Technical, creative, and capable of producing magic in tight spaces. Still only 23 years old — if he puts together a full 38-game campaign, the awards will follow.
Erling Haaland — Man City
Centre ForwardThe Norwegian machine scores goals at a rate that belongs in a video game. When Haaland is fully fit and confident, no other striker in the world compares for sheer goal output. His critics point to contribution outside the box, but his supporters point to the 30+ goals per season that silence all debate.
Our Verdict
What Voters Value Most
PL Player of the Season voters tend to favour players who combine goals, assists and consistent influence. A striker who tops the charts on goals but contributes little else has historically lost out to a more complete performer. This is why Salah — with both goals and assists at a high level — often edges pure strikers like Haaland in fan and journalist votes.
The Role of Team Success
Players on title-winning teams tend to benefit from halo effects in award voting. If Liverpool or Man City win the 2025-26 title, their standout performer gets a significant boost. A player on a mid-table side, however brilliant individually, rarely wins the top honour — Aston Villa's Jack Grealish in 2020-21 being a notable exception.
Our Prediction
We tip Mohamed Salah to win both the official PL Player of the Season and the FWA Footballer of the Year for a dominant 2025-26 season. If Cole Palmer sustains his form over 38 games and Chelsea finish in the top four, he could take the PFA Players' Player award from fellow professionals who appreciate technical brilliance.

Award FAQs
Who votes for the PL Player of the Season?
The official Premier League Player of the Season award is voted for by fans (50% of the vote) alongside a panel of football experts including legends, managers and journalists (50%). Voting typically opens in April as the season nears its conclusion and results are announced at a ceremony in May.
What is the difference between the PFA and FWA awards?
The PFA Players' Player of the Year is voted for by professional footballers registered with the Professional Footballers' Association. The FWA Footballer of the Year is voted for by members of the Football Writers' Association. Both are highly prestigious; the PFA award is often considered the more coveted of the two because peers are voting for peers.
When is the PL Player of the Season announced?
The official Premier League Player of the Season is traditionally announced in May, around the time of the final few matchdays of the season. The PFA awards are usually held at a dinner ceremony in April, while the FWA Footballer of the Year is announced closer to the end of the season.
Has one player ever won all three awards?
Yes, several players have swept all three in exceptional seasons. Thierry Henry won the PFA, FWA and PL Player of the Season in back-to-back years in the early 2000s. More recently, Mo Salah has achieved the triple on multiple occasions. It requires not just statistical excellence but universal respect from fans, players and media.
