Panathinaikos 2025-26 🍀
Panathinaikos are one of the most storied clubs in Greek football history, and in Athens they represent far more than a sports team. The Green-and-Whites carry the identity of an entire community — their passionate support, the Gate 13 ultras, and a legacy built over a century of competition make PAO one of the most recognisable clubs in the Balkans. Competing in the Super League with European ambitions, Panathinaikos aim to be a regular presence in continental competition and a dominant force domestically.
The Panathinaikos Story 2025-26
Green Power: PAO’s Domestic Ambitions
Panathinaikos have won the Greek Super League twenty times — a record that speaks to sustained excellence across different eras. In recent seasons the club has invested in experienced European-level players to challenge Olympiakos’s dominance at the top of the table. The rivalry between PAO and Olympiakos — known simply as the Derby of the Eternal Enemies — is one of the most passionate and intense derbies in European football. Every encounter between these clubs carries enormous weight for supporters and players alike.
OPAP Arena: The Green Cathedral
The OPAP Arena in the Nea Philadelphia district of Athens is Panathinaikos’s current home ground. The stadium holds over 32,000 supporters and generates an extraordinary atmosphere on European nights and in the Athens derby. Gate 13, PAO’s ultras, are famous throughout Greece and beyond for their choreographies, pyrotechnics, and sheer noise levels. The green smoke that fills the stadium when Panathinaikos score is one of Greek football’s most iconic images. This is a ground where visiting teams know they will be tested to their limits.
The Derby of the Eternal Enemies: PAO vs Olympiakos
There is no bigger match in Greek football than the clash between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos. The rivalry divides Athens along social and cultural lines that extend far beyond sport. Politically charged, emotionally overwhelming, and historically rich, the Derby of the Eternal Enemies is one of the fiercest in world football. PAO supporters in green; Olympiakos in red. The matches are invariably intense, occasionally controversial, and always deeply meaningful. For Panathinaikos, beating Olympiakos is worth more than three ordinary league victories.
