Road to the 2026 Copa Libertadores Final

The Copa Libertadores 2026 edition begins in February with the preliminary rounds, where clubs from smaller CONMEBOL nations fight for spots alongside the automatic qualifiers from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Paraguay.

Argentina contributes the most clubs, with Boca Juniors, River Plate, Racing, San Lorenzo and more competing for continental glory. Brazil's Brasileirão giants including Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo and Atlético Mineiro are traditionally among the favourites.

The group stage draws in October 2025 determined the pool composition, with the top two from each group advancing to the Round of 16. The knockout rounds in March-September 2026 culminate in the Final, typically played in November at a neutral venue chosen by CONMEBOL.

For 2026 the winner also earns a place in the expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup in 2027, adding extra prestige to the title. Expect the usual suspects — Boca, River, Flamengo, Palmeiras — to be in the shake-up once more.
